(Step 1) - $59,475.00 (Step 6) $71,904* Current members of AFSCME LOCAL 1522 will be given first opportunity to fill the position. BEHAVIOR SPECIALIST OBJECTIVE The Behavior Specialist, in collaboration with other members of the Office of Specialized Instruction and School based teams, assists with consultation, development/design and implementation of behavioral/social/emotional interventions throughout the district.
RESPONSIBILITIES: - Assist with linkages and referrals for youth identified as in need of community-based services in supports.
- Assist in the development of targeted and intensive level interventions and strategies.
- Provide direct services to a referred group of targeted students.
- Develops methods of tracking effectiveness of behavior support plans
- Regularly reviews and analyzes data and make changes to plans as necessary.
- Prepare and provide CPI/PMT training to district staff on an as needed basis.
- Assist teachers in the development and implementation of social skills curricula appropriate to students' ages and abilities.
- Collaborate with school personnel in the development of behavior plans.
- Assist in the development and implementation of alternative interventions to suspension.
- Provide on-going staff observation and feedback related to behavioral treatment integrity.
- Participates in meetings and professional development as required or appropriate.
- Maintains a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality when dealing with student, staff, and/or parent information.
- Models good attendance and punctuality.
- Additional duties may be assigned by Assistant Superintendent of Student Support Services and Operations and the Director of Specialized Instruction.
REQUIREMENTS: - Bachelor's degree required.
- Five or more years of successful school-based experience in a special education environment preferred.
- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of psychology/behavior modification techniques.
- Ability to implement/interpret behavior intervention plans, classroom systems, IEP's and reinforcement systems.
- Current CPI or PMT trainer certification.
- Collaborating with school personnel about behavioral/social/emotional health.
- Evidence of diplomacy, flexibility, creativity and perseverance.
- Effective facilitation, negotiation and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Excellent organizational and multi-tasking skills.
