DescriptionSummary/Objective The Behavior Specialist consults with the Principal/Director to provide clinical expertise regarding students. They serve as a member of the Intervention Assistance Team (IAT), Evaluation Team Report (ETR) team, Individualized Education Program (IEP) team, and Building Leadership Team (BLT). The Behavior Specialist completes component assessments for the ETR, develops counseling goals for IEPs, provides direct counseling services to students, reports progress on IEP goals, provides crisis intervention, consults on behavior planning at all levels, and delivers professional development to staff related to behavior management. Responsibilities ? Participate in the enrollment process, providing clinical expertise for prospective students ? Provide professional development to staff on: ? Behavior management strategies ? Completion of behavior rating scales for ETRs ? Other relevant topics (e.g., trauma-informed practices) ? Using a train-the-trainer model following professional development from the Special Education Leadership Team ? Participate as a member of IAT, ETR, IEP, and BLT teams to identify and implement appropriate services, modifications, and accommodations for students with disabilities ? Complete assessment components for the ETR, including: ? Background Information (including Autism assessments) ? Parent Information ? Classroom Observations ? Behavior Reports ? Adaptive Behavior Reports ? Transition/Vocational Reports ? Develop counseling goals for IEPs, consult with staff on implementation, and monitor and track student progress ? Deliver direct counseling services to students via individual or group sessions as indicated on IEPs ? Complete and report IEP Progress Reports for counseling goals ? Administer or coordinate assessments related to student preferences, interests, needs, and strengths for transition planning ? Complete transition sections for the ETR and IEP ? Collaborate with teachers and service providers to implement and document IEP Transition Activities and complete Transition Progress Reports ? Provide Extended School Year (ESY) services for transition or behavior needs as warranted ? Develop, implement, and monitor individualized Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs) based on Functional Behavioral Assessments (FBAs) ? Provide crisis intervention services as needed and consult with building administration regarding student clinical concerns ? Consult with Principal/Director regarding discipline issues related to students with disabilities ? Attend all building administrative meetings as a member of the Building Leadership Team and assist with school-wide behavior interventions ? Complete paperwork necessary for Medicaid billing on at least a monthly basis ? Coordinate job shadowing opportunities, career days, and the College Credit Plus process for the building ? Coordinate credit recovery and credit flexibility programs as needed ? Complete or coordinate completion of At-Risk Checklists and Student Success/Graduation Plans ? Address action items on the annual Special Education Profiles ? Serve as a member of the school Administrative Team and complete assigned building duties (e.g., lunch, arrival/dismissal duties) as needed ? Perform all other duties as assigned by the Executive Director of Special Education Supervisory Responsibilities Individuals with a supervisory endorsement on their license may be asked to provide clinical supervision to dependently licensed individuals. Work Environment This job operates in a professional school environment and routinely uses standard office and classroom equipment. Physical Demands While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, and drive. Position Type/Expected Hours of Work This position follows the School/Teacher calendar and may require work outside of standard operating hours. Travel Travel may be required for professional development, training, or meetings. Minimum Employment Requirements ? Bachelor's or Master's degree and Ohio licensure in Social Work or Clinical Counseling ? Working knowledge of mental and emotional disorders ? Familiarity with the referral and determination of eligibility process under IDEA and the Ohio Revised Code ? Strong oral and written communication skills ? Experience leading counseling groups ? Experience working with child and adolescent populations ? Ability to interact professionally with students, staff, and families ? Ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues ? Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding student records and school matters ? Successful completion of criminal background checks (Ohio Bureau of Criminal Identification and Investigation and/or Federal Bureau of Investigation) ?
