Position Summary
To efficiently and effectively manage student behaviors and foster a safe environment for all students.
Responsibilities
Assist classroom teacher with classroom behavior management including behavior intervention, de-escalation, and re-engagement.Communicate with teachers to determine next steps and consequences after student is calm, safe, and re-engaged in work.Support and promote positive behaviors of students at all times and support students in making healthy, safe choices.Comply with policies and procedures related to student protection, health, safety, and confidentiality.Complete the behavior tracker on the date the incident occurred.Report any restraints or seclusions to the building administrator.Support students in completing assigned work.Ensure students remain supervised at all times.Supervise student behavior on school buses/transportation vehicles.Implement treatment plans in accordance with Board policy, including physical restraints and seclusion of students.Serve on interdisciplinary teams.Attend and participate in clinical staff and faculty meetings.Maintain open communication with students, staff, and parents regarding behavioral concerns and progress.Assist the classroom teacher with other functions as directed.Participate in training and professional development sessions.Assist the behavior analyst with staff training.Perform other functions as determined by the building administrator.Qualifications
Some college courses are highly desirable. Experience working with disruptive behavior, especially with children, is preferred.
Working Conditions
Behavior managers must be physically able to handle restraining students in volatile situations, in accordance with Board policy.
Terms of Employment
Hourly rate and benefits will be in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement between East Hartford Public Schools and Local 1950 of Council 4 of the AFSCME.
