BEHAVIOR INTERVENTIONIST - 31A (Grant Funded)SUMMARY: To assist school personnel in proactively managing students with behavioral challenges and maintaining the safety of the school environment. To collaborate with building administration on the day to day operations of school-wide Positive Behavior Interventions & Supports including restorative practices. Provide direct support to instructional staff and specific students with behavioral and academic strategies through ongoing coaching and job-embedded professional development.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Provide on-going, job-embedded professional development and training to instructional staff on MTSS implementation.Coach teachers, paraprofessionals and interventionists on how to implement and intensify effective interventions and supports based on learner needs (Tiers 2 and 3).Implement preventative and reductive interventions and teach replacement behaviors to students.Provide students with small group/1:1 intervention on socio-emotional learning, behavior intervention and skill building. Consistently follow school-wide behavioral intervention sequences and follow individual behavior intervention plans as appropriate.Demonstrate effective de-escalation and crisis intervention techniques with students and remain calm and neutral to prevent escalation of student behavior.Assist in the day-to-day operation of school wide PBIS including Restorative Practices.Support students with behavioral support plans.Communicate the needs of students to their teachers, and work with staff to assist them in better understanding students with behavioral challenges.Communicate with staff members regarding progress of intervention plans as directed by the Building Principal.Assist with the collection of behavior data as necessary to provide services to at-risk students..Assist with student intervention plans and data analysis.Alert appropriate personnel to any problem or special information about an individual student.Perform such other tasks as may be assigned by the immediate supervisor that are allowable under the Section 31a guidelines.Other duties as assigned. KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:Ability to read, interpret and follow multiple step directions.Demonstrated ability to handle and resolve conflict productively.Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain boundaries with students/families.Maintain confidentiality of student records and information.Demonstrated ability to adhere to Board and Building policies and procedures.Ability to be on the job regularly and have a positive attendance record.Ability to utilize technology (i.e., telephone, cell phone, iPad, laptop computer, desktop computer, printer, copier, fax machine, etc.)QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:Bachelor's Degree in Education, Social Work, Psychology or related field.Training and/or experience working with children in a structured setting is preferred.Specialized training in Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports (PBIS) and Restorative Practices with the experience and skill necessary to train and coach peers in the implementation of these practices.Maturity, patience, and people skills to work effectively with students with behavior challenges.Ability and willingness to work independently with minimal supervision.Strong interpersonal skills, both written and oral.Ability to coach and consult with staff members to support implementation of student behavior support plans.Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.PHYSICAL DEMANDS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently walking and standing while performing the duties of this job. In addition, the employee may frequently bend or twist at the neck and back while performing the duties of this job. Specific vision abilities required by this job include peripheral vision and close vision such as to read typewritten material. The employee may occasionally lift up to 25 pounds such as student equipment. TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Position starts with the 2025-2026 school year. Wages, benefits and work year to be established as per terms of the provisions established by the Board of Education.SALARY: Dependent on credentials, experiences, and specialized training.
