POSITION SUMMARY: The Y Academy Group Leader supports children ages 5-12 by facilitating engaging, educational activities, helping with homework, and communicating with parents. This role requires strong relationship-building skills, a caring presence, and the ability to thrive in dynamic, high-energy environments. SCHEDULE/HOURS OF OPERATION: •Monday-Friday 2:15/2:30pm-6:00 pm (must be able to work Y Academy hours) •Merrimack School District vacation weeks (December, February & April) § The program is open 6:30 am - 6:00 pm § MUST be available to work any 8 hours within that time frame each day •Merrimack School District snow days § The program is open 6:30 am - 6:00 pm § MUST work any 8 hours within that time frame •Merrimack School District early release days § The program is open 11:00 am - 6:00 pm § MUST work within that time frame ***May be asked to ride the school bus*** QUALIFICATIONS: •Experience with children ages 5-12 preferred •Minimum age: 16 years •Strong leadership and communication skills •Must enjoy working with children and demonstrate a nurturing, supportive attitude •Ability to supervise up to 15 children independently ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: •Serve as a role model by embodying the Y's core values: Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility •Create a positive, welcoming atmosphere for children, families, and staff •Lead games, activities, and daily routines to keep kids engaged and joyful •Assist with homework and support academic growth •Communicate daily with parents about their child's experience •Implement and maintain behavior guidance protocols •Design and facilitate weekly club activities to enhance the program experience •Support the Strong Kids Campaign and other mission-driven initiatives •Uphold program policies and ensure child safety at all times •Report any suspected abuse to the appropriate director immediately •Engage in ongoing professional development opportunities PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: •Frequently required to stand, walk, sit, use hands, and communicate clearly •Occasionally lift/move up to 20 pounds •Vision requirements include near and distance vision •Outdoor play occurs in all seasons, including winter REQUIRED TRAINING / CERTIFICATIONS: •Child Abuse Prevention Training •First Aid/CPR (Child) •Current physical/health exam (dated within two years) •Fingerprint clearance from a law enforcement agency YMCA COMPETENCIES: •Relationships: Builds authentic connections •Inclusion: Values diverse backgrounds and perspectives •Innovation: Brings new ideas for a better member experience •Quality Results: Strives to exceed expectations •Self-Development: Seeks opportunities for personal and professional growth OUR CULTURE: At the Y, we are welcoming-a place where everyone belongs.
