**Become a Host Home For Unaccompanied Minors**

WHAT: The Safe Haven Program at Lutheran Social Services of New York is looking for eligible foster homes in their community. They provide foster parents with the necessary trainings to support and work with unaccompanied minors. The unaccompanied minors come from Central America and have travelled to the United States without a parent or legal guardian. They are in Safe Havens care until they are reunited with a family member or friend of the family who lives in the United States and can care for the child.

Requirements to be a Foster Parent with the Safe Haven program:

Live in NYC and able to travel to the Bronx from Monday to Friday for foster children to attend our school.

Be bilingual or speak fluent Spanish (native languages such as Garifuna and Kiche are a plus).

Show willingness and commitment to work with program staff, the minor in care and follow any necessary behavioral plans for minors.

Provide care for children without prejudice regardless of language, sexual orientation, religion, race or ethnicity.

Complete all training and requirements including medical evaluation and criminal history to become a Foster Parent.

Comply with all home visits, announced and without notice.

Have experience caring for minors.
