We have an exciting opportunity for a Battery Reserve Project Manager/Engineer/Test to join our JETS II contract team at NASA Johnson Space Center in Houston, TX.

If selected, you will:

  • Serve as a Project and Test Engineer with some Project Management responsibilities within the EP5 Power Systems Branch Battery Team. This team evaluates candidate battery cells and packs for space environments. It is a small, collaborative team responsible for crafting battery safety requirements, evaluation methods, and coordinating with NASA programs and industry partners to provide guidance and assistance. Your tasks will include test development, hardware design, modeling, procurement, cell screening, hardware upgrades, test assembly, hardware delivery, and battery assessments. Travel up to 10%, including international travel, may be required.

Qualifications:

This position is posted at multiple levels. We will consider candidates based on experience, requirements, and business needs.

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Aerospace, Chemical, Electrical, Mechanical) with 2-5 years of experience, or a master's degree with at least 5 years of experience.
  • Familiarity with battery and testing fixture design and operation.
  • Knowledge of Li-Ion batteries, testing modes, and failure modes.
  • Ability to proactively suggest ideas for efficiency, cost savings, and safety.
  • Proficiency in creating project schedules, cost estimates, and execution plans.
  • Ability to identify and communicate risks related to cost, schedule, and technical content.
  • Leadership skills aligned with a 'One NASA' approach.
  • Experience following instructions and procedures for specific tasks/tests.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 30 lbs.
  • Must possess or be able to obtain a passport for international travel.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Additional Qualifications:

  • 5-10 years of experience with a Bachelor's or 5+ years with a Master's degree in engineering fields such as Aerospace, Chemical, Electrical, or Mechanical.
  • Proactive work ethic with minimal oversight.
  • Creo CAD experience.
  • Experience presenting test findings at conferences.
  • Knowledge of JSC hardware quality classifications (Class I / Class III).
  • Experience writing Task Performance Sheets (TPS).
  • Professional communication skills with internal and external customers.
