Compensation: $85,000 - $115,000Battery Applications EngineerMidtronics, a global leader in vehicle battery maintenance, has an exciting and challenging opportunity for a Battery Applications Engineer. The Battery Applications Engineer is part of the Engineering team and reports to the Data and System Engineering Manager for Application & Algorithm Development. In this position, you will be responsible for the design, development, and testing of solutions related to vehicle electrical systems in our 12V automotive service tools, on-board battery monitoring systems, and hybrid-electric vehicle test equipment.
A DAY IN THE LIFE:
You will work with the software engineers, sales, marketing team, and directly with customers to understand customer needs and develop custom solutions.
- Research, design, and develop algorithms used to diagnose batteries, alternators, and vehicle electrical systems
- Perform field data analysis and provide technical support to sales, marketing and the customer
- Collaborate with Data Analytics Team to create models, collect data to support models, and validate the effectiveness as they are used in our tools
- Collaborate with hardware and software engineering teams on the implementation of diagnostic algorithms into customer products aimed at the automotive, heavy-duty, and hybrid-electric vehicle markets
- Plan and execute application test efforts in both lab and field environments
- Familiarity with high-powered lab equipment for test and validation purposes
- Knowledge of industrial safety procedures
- Ability to find optimization opportunities in both internal and external processes
- Perform field and customer visits to gather feedback on the effectiveness of our tools, and identify future solutions
- Maintain lab equipment such as power supplies, test fixtures, temperature chambers as well as battery inventories
- Demonstrate desire for continuous improvement and advancing quality
WHAT YOU'LL NEED:
The preferred candidate will be an excellent collaborator, both with our customers as well as our colleagues in China, Japan, and Europe. They will also have strong data analytics skills, solution-oriented thinking, familiarity with a lab environment, automotive knowledge, and basic software development skills to automate work processes.
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or related technical degree required
- Experience with batteries, alternators, and automotive electrical systems required
- Experience and comfort with direct customer interaction
- Experience with the vehicle communications protocols and system design
- Strong analytics and communication skills
- Experience using Excel and PowerPoint
- Knowledge of data analytics tools like SQL query language
- Experience with soldering and other basic electrical work
- Ability to understand hardware design and software designs a plus
- Basic knowledge of C, C++, C# or Java a plus
