Position Summary
Responsible for the overall operation and maintenance of the plant and plant staff, including safety, quality, production, delivery, and maintenance of the concrete batch plant.
This role is based onsite at the construction project site in Sault Ste. Marie, MI, for the New Lock at the Soo Project for the US Army Corps of Engineers, projected to complete in 2029.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Manage material inventory, ordering, tracking, and scheduling of materials required for concrete production.
- Maintain plant production and tracking records.
- Ensure quality production of concrete per specifications.
- Review and forecast planned concrete pours, coordinating personnel, equipment, and materials.
- Understand project mix designs, components, and testing requirements.
- Manage delivery of concrete to the point of placement on the project site, coordinating with supporting equipment.
- Operate and troubleshoot plant systems, perform preventative and routine maintenance, and track maintenance records.
- Supervise plant personnel, ensuring safety guidelines are followed, including OSHA and EM-385 standards.
- Implement safety procedures such as LOTO, confined space, winterization, stormwater, and air quality management.
- Oversee plant appearance and grounds housekeeping.
- Perform other duties as assigned by management.
Qualifications and Experience
- Experience with concrete production plant operations, specifically central mix plants.
- 5+ years of experience with major heavy civil construction projects preferred.
- Experience with Erie Liberty batching system and multi-mixer batch plants is a plus.
- NRMCA certification and ACI credentials are advantageous.
- Must be able to work at heights and climb ladders.
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to collaborate with project teams, QA/QC, subcontractors, engineers, and clients.
- Must pass a federal background check for site access.
