Job ResponsibilitiesThe Bar Supervisor leads and supervises all aspects of the bar area. Oversees creation of all bar recipes, hiring, scheduling and training of all student bar staff, stocking, preparation, and closing of the work area, as well as ordering, inventory and purchasing practices in line with departmental specifications. The Bar Supervisor will also be responsible to supervise and execute Catering events as needed.Major Responsibilities
  • Supervise, direct, train, schedule, hire and work with full time and student employees. Give clear and concise directions.
  • Create and follow all drink recipes to ensure accuracy in costing and controls.
  • Opens and/or closes bar and ensures it is operationally ready in accordance with established procedures; maintains proper security of unit.
  • Provide excellent customer service to all guests of the establishment.
  • Place necessary orders for inventory and products. Receives, inventories, and stocks products.
  • Participates in planning related to budget, drink menu development, pricing and operational procedures and objectives. Assist manager in planning special functions.
  • Responsible for receiving payment for all orders placed at the bar
  • Research and maintain creative merchandise displays and signage for unit.
  • Provide support to other areas of the Catering department. Performs duties of subordinate food service employees as necessary in order to keep food service unit adequately staffed and running.
  • Monitors service equipment to ensure it is in proper working order; arranges for repair of equipment as necessary.
  • Ensure compliance for all individuals with all dining services expectations, and compliance related items such as ServSafe, and NYS, Monroe County and RIT alcohol laws and policies
  • Enforce all New York State and Monroe County Health codes as they relate to health, sanitation and safety.
  • May complete management responsibility when manager is absent from unit, including necessary service calls.
  • Assist with general office duties, including inventory, payroll, and record keeping.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 3 years' experience in a high volume restaurant, bar, country club, retail, catering, or institutional setting.
  • Servsafe certified or ability to obtain within six months of hire
  • Servesafe Alcohol certified or ability to obtain within six months of hire
  • Allertain certified or ability to obtain within six months of hire
  • 1-3 years in a supervisory position

Department/College DescriptionRIT Catering is the premier catering service on the RIT Campus providing services to over 2500 events a year ranging from drop off meals to full service dining. We are looking for a motivated individual to join our team and help RIT Catering continue to grow positively.Please note: This is a full time position-40 hours per week/12 months per year. Schedule is made up 2 weeks in advance, however hours may vary according to daily business needs. Additionally, flexible scheduling/work hours may be required during break week, summer and intersession. In addition, large institute events may require additional hours (such as commencement (graduation) and Imagine.About RIT Dining RIT Dining supports all meal plans both on campus and at select off campus locations. We are looking for a high energy team member that enjoys working in a busy environment serving customers. The successful candidate will need to be able to work with a diverse student work force which may include of deaf / hard of hearing, and internationals students. Hours would change for breaks, intersession and summer semester.
