Definition: Responsible for belaying patrons during open climbing wall hours, teaching classes, orientations, parties, and rentals. Must also perform cleaning and maintenance duties. Principal Duties: •Belay patrons on a daily basis. •Monitor the walls consistently and conduct climbing wall lessons, assisting patrons and staff with wall safety and policies and procedures. •Provide regular maintenance of the climbing wall including route setting, cleaning holds and any other maintenance needs as directed. •Conduct and record thorough safety checks and inventory of all climbing equipment and report any problems to supervisor. •Assist with annual shutdown deep cleaning, including removing all handholds and resetting routes. •Work in cooperation with other staff members and patrons and maintain a professional appearance at all times. •Report any issues to supervisor and ensure all equipment meets safety standards. •Maintain clean work environment including storage areas. •Assist with paperwork, computer input and filing as necessary. •Performs essential duties and additional tasks in a manner which enhances City Attributes. Working Environment: Work involves high degree of public interaction and communication. Work will be performed mostly indoors with exposure to moderate periods of standing and strenuous activity. Moderate lifting of 45 pounds and may support weights of up to 200 pounds while belaying participants. Dusty environment, heights up to 30 feet and exposure to rough surfaces, loud noise, and stressful situations. Qualifications: Must be at least 16 years old. Knowledge of indoor climbing technique and a thorough understanding of the safe use of climbing equipment, including ropes, belay devices and other hardware, harnesses, and helmets. First Aid and CPR / AED certifications preferred. Demonstrate climbing techniques, ability to set routes, excellent customer service and ability to communicate effectively.
