Job Description - AVP, North American Claims Group (2500002U)Job Summary:

Investigate, evaluate, and resolve claims made against the Company's medical malpractice business, including hospital primary and excess, long-term care, psychiatry, and miscellaneous healthcare liability. Collaborate on projects supporting other areas of the company such as underwriting, finance, actuarial, operations, and technology. Provide superior service to all customers, internal and external.

Job Duties
  • Manage a high volume of claims involving diverse accounts and coverages. Analyze coverage, manage litigation, and interact effectively with insureds, brokers, defense counsel, and other parties. Represent the Company in claim resolution and legal proceedings, including mediations. Participate in underwriting decisions, risk assessment, and renewal processes.
  • Collaborate with other departments on projects as needed. Prepare claim summaries and reports for management.
  • Meet with clients and brokers; attend industry conferences and meetings.
  • Compensation

    The annual base salary range is broad, based on market analysis. Actual compensation may vary depending on role complexity, location, experience, skills, education, and other employment conditions. The base salary is part of a comprehensive total rewards package, which may include incentives.

    Salary Range: $120,000 - $140,000

    Qualifications

    Job Requirements:

    • 7-12 years of experience handling medical liability insurance claims or related fields. Specialty lines experience is preferred. A four-year college degree is required; a J.D., R.N., or strong clinical background is preferred.
    • Strong knowledge of medical malpractice issues and coverage. Excellent negotiation, communication, and technical writing skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
    • Ability to analyze coverage, collaborate with counsel, resolve claims, and operate within delegated authority.
