Responsibilities:

To help us meet our mission LOTTE Biologics is in need of an Automation Engineer, PLC/BAS Controls to support the various PLC/ BAS systems that are used to in the process control of the automated systems. The primary role of the Automation Engineer, PLC/BAS Controls is to design, lead and own the PLC/BAS systems for the Automation Systems. This role will work directly with IT Engineers in determining PLC/BAS requirements, developing specifications, implementing PLC/BAS systems and strategies, testing designs and working safely and efficiently in a high compliance environment. Training will be provided as necessary to enable skills in specific applications used to support this role.

  • Primary function will be to support the various Allen-Bradley PLCs, Rockwell applications, JCI and Siemens HVAC systems and BAS connections and applications.
  • Builds and Influences vendor Rockwell PLC/ BAS roadmaps to align with site strategy.
  • Support the sites Greenfield and Brownfield projects supporting the sites growth and transition out of Legacy Systems.
  • Works with various PLC/BAS Vendors/ Integration specialists to ensure a safe and successful implementation effort is achieved.
  • Owns end-to-end responsibility for managing the Rockwell based PLC/BAS design to provide technical support for Automation projects across the site.
  • Support the PLC/BAS operation of all GMP/ Non GMP manufacturing systems (Process Automation Systems and Building Automation Systems) in the Manufacturing facilities at Syracuse, NY.
  • Investigate the root cause of Digital Plant PLC/BAS problems and propose solution to prevent recurrence.
  • Support the configuration, testing and implementation of process control PLC/BAS solutions to a variety of complex technical projects.
  • Ensure the documentation of the knowledge base on how to resolve PLC/BAS issues encountered, thus facilitate the job for future activities.
  • Conduct all job activities in accordance with cGMP and EHS requirements.
  • Provide training of automated solutions with Automation and Instrumentation staff to ensure understanding how the PLC/BAS functions to assist with troubleshooting during off hours.
  • Research and propose new PLC/BAS technologies to ensure cost reduction and increased reliability
  • Identifies and manages the critical spare part strategy for the PLC/ BAS critical components onsite.

Education/Experience/ Licenses/Certifications:

  • Advanced knowledge of engineering or sciences generally attained through studies resulting in a B.S. in, engineering, science, biochemistry or related discipline or its equivalent is highly desired.
  • 3+ years experience with PLC/BAS design/ troubleshooting/ implementation
  • Significant knowledge and proven expertise of PLC/BAS engineering relating to Emerson, Rockwell, Allen Bradley, JCI, Siemens and LES products.
  • Experienced with current industry standards for Safety and Automation and with current government regulations regarding biotech-producing facilities.

Specific Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, etc:

  • Knowledge of products and technologies provided by major automation vendors, including but not limited to: Emerson, Rockwell, Allen Bradley, JCI, Siemens and LES.
  • Experience in redesigning/ upgrading obsolete PLC/BAS Systems
  • Ability to develop and execute innovative PLC/BAS solutions for continuous improvement.
  • Quote/ Proposal review experience to ensure adequate design meets site budget commitments and project deliverables
  • Experience working with AutoCAD drawing files, Industry Design Standards, Cabinet Layout Drawings.
  • Technical problem solving and analysis skills as well as good communications skills (verbal and written).
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively lead or participate in multi-disciplined team environment to achieve goals.
  • Knowledge and understanding of applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Adaptable to a fast paced, complex and ever-changing business environment.

Physical Demands:

This position is an combination field and office-based position which requires appropriate levels of personal protective equipment (PPE) when field work is required. Frequent repeated motions such as keyboarding are required.

Work Environment:

This position is based indoors and you will primarily be working with others, but also independently and alone at times. This position is a team & project-based role that allows for a 50% onsite/ remote work presence over a two-week period.
