Aegis Worldwide is partnered with a manufacturing client on the west side of Indianapolis who is looking to add an Automation Controls Engineer to their team. This person will be responsible for helping get all automation systems up and running, and maintain these projects for production.
Position Overview:
As a Controls Engineer, you will play a critical role in designing, developing, and maintaining the automation systems that drive our manufacturing operations. You will lead the integration of Siemens PLCs, design HMI interfaces, and implement SCADA systems to ensure efficient and reliable production. This is a hands-on role in a startup environment where you'll have the opportunity to shape the automation strategy from the ground up.
Key Responsibilities:
- Program and configure Siemens PLCs for automated machinery and production lines.
- Design and develop HMI systems for operator interfaces and data visualization.
- Implement and maintain SCADA systems to monitor, control, and optimize plant operations.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including mechanical, electrical, and software engineers to integrate automation systems.
- Develop and maintain documentation for PLC/HMI/SCADA code, network architectures, and control panel layouts.
- Troubleshoot and resolve control system issues in real-time to minimize downtime.
- Support the installation, commissioning, and validation of new equipment and automation lines.
- Identify opportunities for continuous improvement and propose automation solutions to increase efficiency, safety, and reliability.
- Ensure all systems comply with safety standards and regulatory requirements.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree or Associate's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field.
- 2+ years of hands-on experience with Siemens PLC programming and automation systems (TIA Portal, Step 7).
- Proficiency in developing HMI/SCADA systems (WinCC, Ignition, or similar).
- Strong understanding of industrial communication protocols (PROFINET, Modbus, OPC UA, etc.).
- Experience with control system design, troubleshooting, and electrical schematics.
- Ability to work independently and thrive in a fast-paced, ambiguous startup environment.
- Strong communication skills and a team-oriented mindset.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in a greenfield manufacturing environment or startup setting.
- Familiarity with IoT integration and data collection from control systems.
- Experience with robotics integration, motion control, or vision systems.
- Knowledge of safety systems and standards (e.g., SIL, ISO 13849).
