Design, create, and maintain automation systems to produce spring steel components. Work in a hands-on environment as needed to fabricate parts, wire controls, and program robots and PLCs. Apply expertise to creatively solve problems. Responsible for project planning, research and development, prototyping, testing, and integration of automation equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Suggest potential automation projects to management.
  • Provide feedback to management concerning current projects and other needs.
  • Test alternate designs and processing methods to assess feasibility and necessary modifications for implementation.
  • Layout automation systems using SolidWorks and perform reach analyses and other simulations to ensure proper function and performance.
  • Collaborate with automation integrators to quote new systems and present bids for engineering and automation projects, highlighting their benefits to management.
  • Assist automation integrators in building, installing, and smoothly handing off new automation systems to Haven Steel Products.
  • Debug installed automation systems with the help of automation integrators.
  • Implement automation control systems, electromechanical systems, PLCs, or other electronics as required.
  • Modify products or system components to meet engineering design and performance specifications.
  • Train production employees on operation of new and modified automation systems.
  • Diagnose and repair equipment failures in automation systems, working with maintenance as needed.
  • Use 3D printing to support existing hard face coating processes in Tennessee and explore additional applications for 3D printing at the plant.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, schematics, and reports.
  • Create CAD models and schematics to depict components, assemblies, and automation systems.
  • Work with vendors to obtain products, prototypes, samples, schematics, and other materials related to design projects.
  • Develop illustrations and reference manuals to describe operation and maintenance of automation systems.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Qualifications

    • At least one of the following is required:
    • Technical Certificate in welding, electronics, robotics, or related fields with 3+ years of experience.
    • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics, Mechatronics, Robotics, or Manufacturing disciplines) with 3+ years of experience.
    • 5+ years of relevant experience.
    • Experience programming with robot OEMs such as FANUC, ABB, Kawasaki, or Universal Robots (UR).
    • Experience with PLC programming, preferably with Beckhoff and/or Allen Bradley.
    • Proficiency in designing safety systems and hard guarding, wiring safety systems, and programming safety PLCs.
    • Proficiency in CAD design, with SolidWorks preferred.
    • Minimum of two successful automation projects from design to implementation.
    • Comfort working with controls wiring, programming concepts, and logic.
    • Experience in electrical controls layout and connection is preferred.
    • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and related software.
    • Experience in the design, programming, installation, and maintenance of automation systems.
