Role Overview
The Automation Engineer is responsible for supporting the design, implementation, maintenance, and optimization of automation systems in pharmaceutical manufacturing environments. This includes ensuring compliance with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), regulatory standards, and internal quality systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and Implementation: Develop and implement automation solutions using PLC, SCADA, DCS, and HMI systems to enhance manufacturing processes.
- Maintenance and Troubleshooting: Provide ongoing support for automation systems, including diagnostics and resolution of issues to minimize downtime.
- System Integration: Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate automation systems with other manufacturing technologies and IT infrastructure.
- Compliance and Documentation: Ensure all automation activities comply with GMP, FDA 21 CFR Part 11, and other relevant regulations. Prepare and maintain documentation such as User Requirement Specifications (URS), Functional Specifications (FS), and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Project Support: Assist in the planning and execution of automation projects, including system upgrades and new installations, ensuring adherence to project timelines and budgets.
- Training and Support: Provide training to operational staff on automation systems and offer technical support during commissioning and qualification phases.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Automation Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Control Systems Engineering, or a related field.
- 2–3 years of hands-on experience with automation systems in a pharmaceutical or regulated manufacturing environment.
- Proficiency in programming and troubleshooting PLCs (e.g., Allen-Bradley, Siemens), SCADA, DCS, and HMI systems.
- Familiarity with validation processes (IQ/OQ/PQ) and regulatory compliance (FDA, EMA, ISO).
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams.
Preferred Skills
- Experience with Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES) and data analytics tools.
- Knowledge of Industry 4.0 technologies, including IIoT and predictive maintenance.
- Certifications such as Certified Automation Professional (CAP) or Six Sigma.
