The Mission of the Department of Public Instruction

The North Carolina Department of Public Instruction (NCDPI) is charged with implementing the state's public school laws for pre-kindergarten through 12th grade public schools at the direction of the State Superintendent of Public Instruction and the State Board of Education.

The North Carolina Department of Public Instruction is seeking applicants for an Auditor III for our Division of Financial Business Services.

The Division of School Business has five sections: School Reporting and Student Accounting, Monitoring and Compliance, School Allotments, Administration/Data Analysis and Statistics, and Business System Modernization. This division services the entire agency, 115 Local Education Agencies (LEAs), charter schools, and other educational entities, overseeing over $12.9 billion in State funds, $1.1 billion in federal funds, and $1.5 billion in capital funds, along with federal programs like School Nutrition.

This position conducts internal and external audits of subrecipients focusing on operational effectiveness, financial accuracy, compliance, and fraud detection. The Auditor performs moderately complex tasks independently, requiring knowledge of governmental auditing standards, laws, and regulations. The role involves documenting findings, preparing reports, and presenting results to management and committees.
