Ideal Candidate: The ideal candidate will have knowledge of modern principles, practices, and methods of appraisals, auditing, and accounting, including the proper classification of tangible property tax. It is essential that they also have knowledge in state revenue and taxation laws governing the preparation and processing of assessment rolls and the appraisal and auditing of property. They should have the ability to organize and prioritize timelines for self and others while completing multiple projects with competing priorities effectively and in a timely manner. Examples of Duties
- Performs appraisals of complex taxable commercial, industrial, rural, residential and agricultural personal property and fixtures.
- Inspects, measures and classifies structures to determine market value; inspects land and improvement changes to determine effects on value; calculates replacement costs, obsolescence, construction costs, resale value, and other pertinent factors; determines equitable and consistent property values and conclusions.
- Represents the department at assessment hearings; investigates and gathers facts and other documentation; reviews taxpayer records; audits taxpayers as necessary; resolves matters by stipulation or prepares recommendations.
- Responds to inquiries, complaints, and requests for information; interprets and applies regulations, policies, procedures, systems, rules, and precedents in response to inquiries and complaints from other County departments, various agencies, and the public.
- Performs a wide variety of general office and administrative duties.

- Equivalent to completion of the twelfth (12th) grade.
Auditor-Appraiser I:In addition to the above:
- Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major coursework in accounting or a closely related field.
Auditor-Appraiser II:In addition to the above:
- Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major coursework in accounting or a closely related field.
- Two (2) years of experience in accounting, auditing, or property appraisal.
Senior Auditor-Appraiser:In addition to the above:
- Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major coursework in business, accounting or a closely related field;
- Three (3) years experience performing appraisal audits and complex functions in support of a County assessment roll of which at least one (1) year must have been at the level of Auditor-Appraiser II with Tehama County.
- Three years experience at the level of Auditor Appraiser II or equivalent experience.
- Other combinations of education and experience may be considered.
License & Special Requirements: All levels the Auditor-Appraiser series:
- Requires a valid California driver's license.
Auditor-Appraiser I:
- Must be able to obtain, within six (6) months of hire, an Appraiser Certificate issued by the State Board of Equalization.
Auditor-Appraiser II:
- Requires an Appraiser Certificate issued by the State Board of Equalization.
Senior Auditor-Appraiser:
- Requires an Advanced Appraiser Certificate issued by the State Board of Equalization.

- Annual salary step increases based upon satisfactory performance and completion of one year of employment (Step A to E).
HEALTH:
- Approximately 80% of the premium for medical, dental, and vision plan is paid by the County (EPO Plan). The plan covers the employee and all eligible dependents at NO ADDITIONAL COST!
- Employee premiums are $234.54 per month as of January 1, 2025 for employee and all eligible dependents.
PAID LEAVES:
