Job Summary
Recreation and Wellness at Auburn University ( is excited to begin the search for a Coordinator to help lead the day-to-day operations of Auburn Outdoors, the university's outdoor recreation program! Auburn Outdoors enhances student growth and engagement through four key areas: outdoor trips, an equipment rental center, a bike maintenance shop, and a climbing wall. This role will take primary responsibility for two of these program areas, overseeing student staff management, scheduling, training, evaluation, and program development to ensure meaningful and well-run experiences for students, faculty, and staff.
Essential Functions
Recruits, supervises, and evaluates student staff.
Plans and implements training in technical and essential skills that equip student staff to manage the day-to-day operations of a program of Auburn Outdoors.
Coordinates the daily operations of program(s) of Auburn Outdoors including program workshops and events.
Communicates student staff expectations in a timely manner.
Assists with identification and implementation of professional development opportunities for student staff.
Schedules the appropriate student staff for program activities.
Reconciles payroll for 18-25 employees, bi-weekly.
Contributes information as needed for assessment and revision of goals, policies, and procedures.
Assists with the development, implementation, and monitoring of short- and long-range plans while maintaining the vision, mission and values of Auburn Outdoors, Recreation and Wellness and the Division of Student Affairs.
Executes purchases ensuring policies and procedures are followed regarding revenue, expenses, and reimbursements.
Manages equipment inventory for program(s) of Auburn Outdoors.

High school diploma or equivalent + 8 years of experience OR
Bachelor's degree

High school diploma or equivalent + 10 years of experience OR
Bachelor's degree + 2 years of experience OR
Master's degree

Master's degree + 2 years of experience
Scope of Experience: Experience in sports or recreational programming working in a collegiate/community recreational environment.

Facility management software, such as Innosoft Fusion, staff scheduling software, such as When to Work, and timekeeping software, such as Kronos
Risk management principles and industry standards in outdoor recreation
Certifications from any of the following organizations:
Wilderness First Responder (WFR )
PCIA (Professional Climbing Instructor Association)
ACA (American Canoe Association)
LNT (Leave No Trace)
AMGA (American Mountain Guides Association)
CWA (Climbing Wall Association)
ARC (American Red Cross)
ACCT (Association of Challenge Course Technology)
Project Wild
CPR and First Aid Certifications within 90 days of employment.
