Job Description :

The New York Army National Guard is seeking attorneys in various locations throughout New York State.

When you serve as a Judge Advocate General (JAG) attorney in the New York Army National Guard, you will have the unique opportunity to blend a legal career with a part-time military career. JAGs provide legal support and advice to military personnel, handling a wide range of legal issues within many different legal practices. The skills and varied experiences acquired as a military attorney will:

Responsibilities:

Provide legal advice and representation to Soldiers, military officers, and their families

Perform work as needed on a wide range of legal practices, to include criminal law, needed legal assistance, family law, civil/administrative law, labor/employment law, international/operational law, contract/fiscal law, are more as the needs arise

Conduct legal practices in accordance with the Uniform Code of Military Justice

Offer legal reviews, ethics opinions and advice to commanders

Supervise and direct paralegal staff as needed

Represent Soldiers and/or their families in military court

Other duties typically assigned to military officers

Qualifications:

Must hold a law degree from an ABA approved school (you may apply in your third year of law school)

Be a member in good standing of the bar of the highest court of a state or federal court

Mandatory participation in the six-week Direct Commissioning Course

Mandatory participation in the eleven-week Judge Advocate Officer Basic Course

Be of good moral character and possess leadership qualities

Must be a US citizen

Physically fit and good health
