Attendance Officer - Henrico County Virginia : Job Details

General Statement of Duties Position serves as a designated attendance officer for assigned schools. Position enforces the provisions of the Code of Virginia compulsory attendance law in accordance with School Board policy and procedures. Position tracks student attendance referrals and monitors students' attendance. Position works as a team member to develop effective intervention strategies to eliminate barriers to regular school attendance, provides case management, enters SRC Attendance Coding, supports school VCSIP goals for attendance and makes timely referrals to the School Social Worker for students and/or parents who require court intervention. This position is a 12 month 260 day. Minimum salary is $63,313.41 for the 2023-24SY (prorated based on hire date) Essential Duties

• EnforcesandmonitorsCodeofVirginiaandSchoolBoardpolicyrequirementsofcompulsoryschoolattendance.
• Maintains working knowledge of statelaw,school board policy, VirginiaDepartment of Educationpolicy and administrative regulations regarding school attendance matters.
• Investigatesreportsofstudentsnotenrolledinschool.
• Schedules,develops,andimplementsAttendanceCompliancePlansandSchoolConferencemeetingsin accordance withtimelinesspecified in theCodeofVirginiaandSchool Board Policyrequirements.
• Collaborates with school social workers and otherschool personnel to effectivelysupport the timelyfiling of a CHINS petition or parent warrant when necessary.
• Consultswithadministrators,schoolcounselors,teachers,andotherschoolpersonnelregardingstudentattendance.
• Conductshomevisitswithparentsandstudents forthepurposeofcheckingontruant studentsandgaining parental support for students' compliance in attending school.
• Maintainsaccuraterecordsoftruancycaseload.
• Maintainsdocuments,filesandrecordsforallwork-relatedactivities.
• Engageswiththecommunitymemberstosupportstudentsremaininginschool.
• Linksstudentsandfamiliestocommunityandschool-basedservicesasneeded.
• Performotherrelateddutiesasassigned.

Minimum Qualifications Bachelor'sorAssociate'sdegreeinsocialwork,behavioralscience,criminaljustice,ora relatedfieldpreferred.Experienceworkingwithtruancyreduction,dropout preventionandstudentattendanceprograms preferred.Abilitytoreadandrespondtocommunication,composeletters,andfileaccuratereports.Abilityto effectively communicatebothorallyandinwritingandtoworkeffectivelywithadiversepopulationofstudents,parents,schoolstaff andcommunity.Bilingual (English andSpanishspeaking) isa plus.Must bewillingto workaflexible workschedule. PossessionofavalidVirginiadriver'slicenserequired.Mustbewillingandabletousepersonalvehicleasneededtomake homevisitsand meet with stakeholders outside of theschool as needed. Additional Information Ability to provide direct intervention service to high-risk students. Shall be able to use computers, software, and other current technology. Work requires frequent standing, sitting, walking and light lifting up to 10 pounds. Effective verbal and written communication skills for expressing or exchanging ideas, hearing to perceive information at a normal spoken word level and visual acuity for preparing and analyzing written or computer data.
