Asst. Conflict Defender: Criminal Court Positions - Office of the Monroe County Conflict Defender : Job Details

We have attorney positions open in our City Court bureau of the Conflict Defender's Office. Attorneys hired will be representing clients accused of misdemeanor level offenses in Rochester City Court and specialty courts.

Responsibilities: legal representation of indigent persons entitled to public defense who cannot be represented by the Public Defender s Office due to a conflict of interest. The employee reports directly to and works under the general supervision of the Special Assistant Conflict Defender in City Court and the Conflict Defender.

Qualifications:

1. The candidate shall be an attorney duly licensed to practice law in the State of New York.

2. The candidate must have the ability to build relationships with clients and possess clear and effective communication skills.

3. The candidate must show a commitment to clients and exceptional advocacy.

4. The candidate shall have an ability to work with judges, lawyers, court administrators, other persons within the court system, and court officials.

5. An Assistant Conflict Defender should have a willingness to work with low income individuals or communities and a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion
