Deese College of Business and Economics at North Carolina A&T State University seeks a dynamic and innovative Chairperson for the Department of Management who possesses a strong record of scholarship, teaching, and service, along with demonstrated leadership experience in higher education. The successful candidate will exhibit a strong commitment to fostering excellence in research, teaching, and service and possess a clear vision for advancing the departments educational, research, and community engagement efforts. This is a 12-month administrative position with a tenure-track faculty appointment at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor. The preferred start date is July 2025. Candidate must have an earned doctorate in management, business administration, or a closely related field and a record of scholarly activity commensurate with appointment as a professor or associate professor. They must have six or more years of demonstrated excellence in leadership and administration Responsibilities Reporting directly to the Dean of the Deese College, the Department Chair is expected to provide strategic and operational leadership for the department while fostering a collaborative and collegial environment. Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Advancing the departments mission in research, teaching, and service.
  • Developing and executing the departments vision and strategic plan in alignment with the College and University goals.
  • Promoting student success through recruitment, retention, mentoring, and support initiatives.
  • Ensuring the quality and relevance of undergraduate and graduate programs.
  • Overseeing faculty workload assignments, recruitment, mentoring, evaluation, and development.
  • Supporting faculty research, teaching, and service activities.
  • Providing financial oversight and stewardship of departmental resources.
  • Engaging faculty in program assessment, reporting, and strategic planning efforts.
  • Leading accreditation efforts and ensuring compliance with relevant standards.
  • Representing the department to internal and external constituencies, including alumni, donors, and industry partners.
The ideal candidate will bring a distinguished record of scholarship and research, a commitment to academic excellence, and an ability to cultivate and sustain an inclusive and collaborative departmental culture. Experience with securing extramural funding and familiarity with accreditation processes, particularly AACSB , is highly desirable. The University is on a journey to become a Research 1 (R1) institution. The Management Department Chair will have to manage the faculty and staff resources as the Deese College prioritizes research, research funding, and student (graduate and undergraduate) engagement in research. The Chair will be essential to creating a culture where all faculty (tenured, tenure-track, and non-tenure track) and staff are valued and engaged. Engagement with external partners and the development of external funding sources will be key. Minimum Requirements Candidate must have an earned doctorate in management, business administration, or a closely related field and a record of scholarly activity commensurate with appointment as a professor or associate professor. They must have six or more years of demonstrated excellence in leadership and administration, with experience gained through the leadership of a large academic unit or similar organization preferred. Candidate must also have a strong record in research, teaching, and service. The Chairperson should be an open and effective communicator with the ability to build cooperation and consensus. The candidates academic credentials should provide evidence of an ability to work effectively and collaboratively with the faculty and administration of the College and University, as well as other constituent groups and partners both within and outside the University.
