Associate Director of Development - The City : Job Details

THE CITY is seeking a dynamic Associate Director of Development to join New York City's premier nonprofit newsroom focusing on accountability and service journalism and play a pivotal role in advancing our mission through strategic fundraising and donor engagement.

In this role, you'll manage institutional partnerships, uncover new funding opportunities, and tell our story through compelling impact reporting that demonstrates the real-world difference our work makes.

What You'll Do

Manage Institutional Fundraising

• Manage a comprehensive portfolio of institutional grants, ensuring compliance with all requirements and deadlines
• Oversee grant calendars, portals, and maintain an organized library of essential attachments
• Collaborate with our Director of Finance and Administration on grant-related financial reporting
• Cultivate and maintain relationships with institutional donors, particularly those providing annual support

Drive Strategic Growth & Enhance Donor Relationships

• Research and identify promising new institutional prospects to expand our funding base and prepare detailed prospect profiles for major donors
• Develop and execute mid-level donor communication strategies to encourage upgrades and increased engagement
• Support membership and major gift initiatives as needed
• Present strategic funding recommendations to our Chief Development Officer

Measure and Communicate Impact

• Lead all impact reporting initiatives, including annual and quarterly reports that showcase our achievements
• Manage real-time impact communications to donors and stakeholders
• Utilize multiple tracking tools to capture and analyze our organizational impact
• Create compelling narratives that translate data into meaningful stories

• Proven experience in development, donor communications, or institutional fundraising
• Outstanding written and verbal communication skills
• Strong project management skills with attention to detail and ability to juggle multiple deadlines
• Flexible, team-oriented approach to your work
• Proficiency with donor management systems and digital tools

Compensation: Salary range: $70,000-$85,000 + comprehensive benefits
