Job Summary:The Colby Program for Academic Success & Transformative Learning (PASTL), established in fall 2023 with support from the Office of the Provost and the Dean of Students, aims to enhance teaching and learning at Colby College. PASTL focuses on fostering intellectual engagement across the curriculum through collaborative and reflective practices, grounded in scholarship and enriched by faculty and student interactions. Reporting to the Associate Provost for Teaching and Learning, the McVey Associate Director of Data Literacy Programming will develop and implement resources to improve data literacy skills among students, especially those from disadvantaged backgrounds.This is a full-time, temporary, exempt position funded by gifts, with continuation contingent on funding availability.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:- Develop workshops, modules, and resources on data literacy and related skills.
- Teach one introductory course annually on statistical literacy and oversee undergraduate peer learning assistants.
- Build effective relationships within a diverse community, including students, faculty, staff, and alumni.
- Research and prepare materials for data literacy programming and presentations.
- Manage budgets for data literacy initiatives.
- Develop tools to assess program effectiveness.
- Manage social media activities related to data literacy programs.
- Prepare financial reports with analysis and recommendations.
- Contribute to the success of data literacy initiatives and perform other duties as assigned.
Position Qualifications:Minimum Qualifications:
- Ph.D. or terminal degree in statistics, data science, or related field.
- Experience in data analysis and faculty development.
- Familiarity with teaching frameworks and strategies.
- Proven collaboration skills across fields.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Creative problem-solving abilities.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Interest in engaging undergraduates, scholars, and artists.
- Ability to work effectively in diverse teams and communities.
- Leadership and decision-making skills with transparency.
Physical/Mental Demands:Requires ability to meet deadlines, interact professionally in emotional situations, move within campus spaces, perform prolonged computer work, lift up to 25 pounds, and shift focus quickly amidst interruptions. Reasonable accommodations will be considered for disabilities.
