It's fun to work in a company where people truly BELIEVE in what they're doing!We're committed to bringing passion and customer focus to the business.OverviewThe Assistant / Associate Director for Fraternity & Sorority Life is responsible for advising two governing councils and affiliated chapters (IFC, MGC, NPHC, PHC) and the cross-council programming committee. They advise and mentor undergraduate leaders while also maintaining communication with advisors, alumni, house corporations, and inter/national headquarters staff. This position is responsible for oversight of fraternity/sorority facilities management, social engagement and harm reduction, and the cross-council programming committee. The Associate Director also provides supervision to undergraduate student employees.Essential Job Functions

  • Advising and Student Support (35%)
    • Directly advise two governing councils, including regular attendance at council executive and general board meeting
    • Advised affiliated chapters within council portfolio; coaches, mentors, and communicates regularly with chapter leadership
    • Provides personalized coaching to meet council/chapter goals and requirements of the inter/national organization
    • Supports chapter programmatic initiatives, including leadership and membership development, social programming, philanthropy, etc.
    • Provides oversight to membership intake and/or recruitment processes, including planning and approval of intake and recruitment events, marketing materials, management of the ICS recruitment software, approval of designing curriculum for recruitment counselor training, and approving all bid day and new member events
    • Maintain collegial partnerships with inter/national organizations, alumni, and advisors as it relates to supporting the membership experience
  • Social Programming and Harm Reduction (30%)
    • Coordinate and advise a cross-council social programming board to promote collaborative events that strengthen inter-chapter relationships and a shared sense of community.
    • Lead the revision, implementation, and oversight of all social event registration, review, and approval processes in collaboration with the DUPartySafe stakeholders
    • Serve as the primary resource and educator for chapters on responsible event planning, risk mitigation, and compliance with institutional policies, inter/national headquarters policies, and local/state/federal laws
    • Provide direct coaching and support to social chairs, risk managers, and chapter leaders on how to execute safe events
    • Collaborate with the Office of Campus Safety, the Office of Community Values and Student Conduct, Risk Management, and Residential Communities and Housing to ensure alignment on policies and timely communication around social functions
    • Collaborate with Health and Wellness to plan and facilitate research-based harm reduction programming (alcohol and other drugs, upstander intervention, consent, etc.)
  • Facility Management and Oversight (15%)
    • Builds relationships with fraternity and sorority housing corporations to ensure safety and healthy environment are maintained within fraternity and sorority facilities
    • Benchmarks and researches best practices as it relates to fraternity and sorority facilities management, attends conferences, and develops a management plan
    • Oversee the opening and closing of fraternity lodge/houses, sorority houses, MGC and NPHC office, and social spaces
    • Manages all member space access rosters; approves any new space access requests with Facilities Services and Residential Communities and Housing (RCH)
    • Conducts regular health and safety inspections, in alignment with RCH guidelines, for all fraternity and sorority facilities
    • Collaborates with RCH and facilities staff to provide on-going training opportunities for fraternity and sorority housing/facilities managers to support a positive and healthy environment for members
    • Supports chapters in submitted facilities service requests, capital projects, etc.
    • Partners with financial management to review the fraternity lease agreements for Denison owned-fraternity leased facilities and fraternity owned-Denison leased facilities, as needed
    • Manages the fraternity and sorority facilities renovation request; collaborates with Residential Communities and Housing, Facilities Services, and Financial Management to review and approval all requests submitted
  • Administration (15%)
    • Assists in the management of Fraternity & Sorority Life Campus Groups / WhatToDu group pages, and council- specific channels
    • Supports FSL/CLIC Administrative Assistant in supervising student staff; including hiring and onboarding, task delegation, 1:1 conversations, and performance management
    • Provides oversight of roster management, grade report distribution, and management of accurate recruitment statistics for fraternity and sorority chapters; including individually coding student affiliations into WhatToDU
    • Work to maintain collaborative relationships within the Division of Student Life, as well as Alumni and Family Engagement, Athletics, and Facilities Management.
OTHER DUTIES (5%)
  • This position may serve in the Student Life professional on-call rotation.
  • Attends professional conferences to keep abreast of best practices and new developments within the fraternity/sorority profession
  • Maintain visibility and engagement with the student body and campus community at University events and programs
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • An earned Master's degree in Higher Education & Student Affairs, College Student Personnel, or other related advanced degree.
  • For an Assistant role, at least 2-3 years experience in a collegiate environment working directly with fraternities and sororities, including experience working with culturally diverse populations.
  • For an Associate role, at least 3-5 years experience in a collegiate environment working directly with fraternities and sororities, including experience working with culturally diverse populations.
  • Must have a current, valid driver's license and be insurable under Denison's liability insurance policy.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Affiliated with an inter/national fraternity/sorority.
  • Experience advising fraternity and sorority councils, including NPHC and multi-cultural organizations. Demonstrated facilitation and training skills.
  • An understanding and appreciation for the liberal arts and residential colleges.
Physical Demands
  • Event set-up, tear down, general trouble-shooting and hosting duties.
  • At times, this position is required to lift no more than 20 pounds on an occasional basis and up to 10 pounds frequently.
  • At times, this position requires standing, walking for 2 or more hours at a time. This position will navigate campus spaces in the course of their duties.
