Reports To: Director of Student Success & Coaching

Basic Function and Scope of Responsibilities: The Associate Director serves as a team leader within the Center of Student Success & Coaching and provides oversight to areas under Academic & Career Success, Student Involvement, and/or Residence Life & Community Standards. Reporting to the Director, the Associate Director ensures delivery of essential services and programming to ensure student retention, persistence, and degree completion. The Associate Director is responsible for executing programming to engage students and create a vibrant campus life. They will work as a member of the leadership team within the Center of Student Success & Coaching, overseeing operations and services, and assisting with strategic planning.

Principal Responsibilities:

  • Manage daily operations of the Center of Student Success & Coaching, including serving on the leadership team to ensure successful execution of academic and career success, student engagement, residence life, community standards, student programming, LIU Cares, and other student affairs functions.
  • Supervise and mentor professional staff, establishing goals, fostering development, and monitoring progress to meet recruitment and retention goals.
  • Hold regular staff meetings and one-on-one meetings.
  • Facilitate and oversee training and development programs for staff.
  • Serve as a primary advisor and success coach for a caseload of students as needed.
  • Collaborate with various offices to support recruitment and retention efforts and events.
  • Support the student experience through LIU's four-year model, from pre-enrollment to graduation.
  • Assist with pre-enrollment, admissions, orientation, campus, and career activities, emphasizing an integrated college experience.
  • Prepare students for transition to college and integrate them into university life.
  • Plan and execute campus programming, including engagement, involvement, and academic success initiatives.
  • Ensure accurate academic advisement, including registration and career planning.
  • Interpret career assessments and provide advisement, developing career tracks aligned with students' academic pursuits.
  • Assess needs and provide overrides/approvals for financial aid, academic advising, and other campus functions.
  • Attend meetings, participate in committees, and assist with projects and events.
  • Coordinate with counterparts on other campuses for a consistent LIU student experience.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director.
  • Area-Specific Responsibilities:

    • First & Second Year Student Success: Lead initiatives to improve retention and persistence, facilitate academic workshops, support first-year programs, and coordinate study abroad and legacy campaigns.
    • Third & Fourth Year Student Success: Advance retention efforts, monitor student progression, facilitate career workshops, support LIU Handshake activities, and collaborate with alumni relations.
    • Graduate & International Student Success: Support international students, oversee compliance, and promote success initiatives.
    • Residence Life: Manage housing operations, policies, programming, and student leadership development.
    • Campus Life: Develop campus-wide programs, support student organizations, and enhance campus traditions and initiatives.

    Education Requirements: Master's Degree required.

    Training, Skills, Knowledge, and Experience:

    • 2-4 years of professional experience in higher education or student affairs.
    • Proven success in managing co-curricular or academic support services.
    • Appreciation for cultural differences and global values.
    • Excellent communication skills.
    • Facility with database management systems.
    • High energy and enthusiasm for working with students.

    Working Conditions:

    • Flexible hours, including weekends and evenings.
    • Occasional travel to other LIU campuses.
