Founded in 1971 in Long Island City, Queens , LaGuardia Community College is one of seven community colleges of the City University of New York (CUNY). LaGuardia offers more than sixty associate degree programs and more than fifty workforce training, ESOL, GED, and pre-college programs. In 2023, LaGuardia served approximately 24,000 students. More than one-third of LaGuardia?s degree-seeking students are born outside the United States; they come from 136 countries and speak 43 heritage languages. Sixty percent are first-generation college students.
Virtually all LaGuardia students are ethnic minorities (89 percent), 58 percent are women, 27 percent are over the age of 25. Forty-six percent of associate degree students are Hispanic. Upon graduation most students transfer to four-year colleges, typically in CUNY, to complete their baccalaureate degrees. Graduates of career programs such as Nursing, Computer Technology, and Veterinary Technology enter the workforce. The Associate Director of CUNY Beyond/Career-Connected Learning is the primary campus administrator of the CUNY Beyond program, working collaboratively with faculty, staff, and administrators to ensure the development and implementation of activities designed to foster career preparation across all academic disciplines. The Associate Director is committed to building the College?s capacity tostrengthen teaching, learning, advising, and mentoring around CUNY?s priority initiative to enhance college to career and beyond so that graduates can launch careers with competitive salaries.
Reporting to the Associate Provost, the Associate Director will coordinate and support CUNY Beyond programming across the projects five pillars: Career Exposure & Exploration, Integrated Academic & Career Advising, Career Connected Learning, Paid Work-based Learning, and Employer Engagement. Integrating an awareness of academic and career skills and competencies with project management functions, the incumbent will liaise with leadership teams in Academic Affairs, Adult & Continuing Education, Marketing & Communications, and the Office of the President around these areas and work closely with CUNY Central and CUNY campus partners. The Associate Director works with faculty, staff, and administrators in planning and implementing working groups, workshops, employer engagement events, and student information sessions. This position requires well-developed knowledge of and experience with academic programs and processes, career-connected learning, student success services and supports, and the curricular and co-curricular experiences that support active learning, as well as knowledge and skill in program development and project management, including budgeting and administrative tasks.
