Duties and Responsibilities:

The Auburn University at Montgomery Department of Intercollegiate Athletics is seeking a strategic and detail-oriented professional for the role of Associate Athletic Director for External Affairs position. The position is full-time and will report to the Director of Athletics. The candidate selected to fill this position will be responsible for the following:

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Mentor, coach and oversee AUM Athletics' Sports Information Department and Marketing and Fan Engagement Department
  • Cultivate, solicit, and manage AUM Athletics' corporate sponsorships; contact area businesses and individuals regarding opportunities to partner with AUM Athletics and brand AUM Athletics within the River Region
  • In coordination with the Director of Athletics and Office of Advancement, grow and enhance giving, foster relationships with business partners, donors, and constituents
  • Develop game day and seasonal promotions that highlight relationships with area businesses, community members, and strategic partners
  • Assist coaches in the fundraising efforts of individual sports programs and sport-specific booster clubs
  • Grow, execute, direct and oversee AUM Athletic special events, such as the annual fundraising campaign, AUM Hall of Fame Committee, Hall of Fame Banquet, Warhawk Choice Awards, Senior Days, Homecoming, Graduation Breakfast, etc.
  • Regularly collaborate and partner with other University offices including Advancement, Marketing, Alumni, and Student Affairs, in an effort to coordinate and maximize opportunities to promote, brand, and fundraise for AUM Athletics
  • Update, enhance, and oversee the aumathletics.com “Give” links and donor information
  • Expand and oversee AUM Athletics' Ticketing and Hospitality operations, implement a ticket sales plan that attracts more fans and increases revenue
  • Serve as one of the gameday administrators for department's home athletic contests
  • Maintain positive and effective working relationships across the department, university and community
  • Ensure compliance with all NCAA , conference, university, and state regulations
  • May serve as oversight of concessions operations
  • May serve as facilities liaison between athletic department and University Facilities Management
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics

  • Proven ability to successfully lead, recruit and manage people
  • Demonstrated success in soliciting, closing and stewardship of sales, gifts, customers and donors
  • Excellent organizational, communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to solve problems
  • Ability to effectively manage several projects simultaneously
  • Ability to work both independently, with minimal routine oversight, and as a member of multiple teams
  • Ability to work nights, weekends, holidays, and some travel
  • Ability to support and promote the University's mission
  • Knowledge and commitment to rules and regulations set forth by the NCAA Division II, the Gulf South Conference and the University
Minimum Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited four-year institution
  • Five years experience in higher education, college athletics, donor relations, sales or a closely related field, with a proven track record of success
  • Valid driver's license, clean driving record and be able to operate a typical motor vehicle
  • Continued employment is contingent upon obtaining and maintaining CPR / AED and First Aid certification
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's Degree
  • Two years experience in higher education advancement
