Position: Assoc Research Scientist

Obesity and adiposity?based chronic diseases (ABCDs; type 2 diabetes) are a serious health and economic concern. Dr. Collin J. Popp (PI) and his team are conducting randomized controlled trials in adults with obesity and ABCDs by testing bio-behavioral strategies (e.g., time-restricted eating, physical activity). The Associate Research Scientist will assist with a 12?month RCT called TWIST (Time-restricted eating for Weight loss maintenance) and contribute to the lab's research output, including authoring scientific papers and preparing grant applications. The role involves collaboration with professionals across disciplines within the Center for Healthful Behavior Change in the Institute for Excellence in Health Equity and NYU Grossman School of Medicine. The successful candidate will have strong interpersonal and communication skills, leadership and personnel management abilities, organizational skills, and experience in patient-oriented research.

Job Responsibilities
  • Assist in the design, implementation, and management of a 12-month randomized controlled trial (TWIST) focused on time-restricted eating and weight loss maintenance and future research projects.
  • Coordinate and oversee study activities, including participant recruitment, data collection, and adherence to protocols.
  • Monitor and ensure data quality and integrity throughout the trial process.
  • Contribute expertise in metabolism, obesity, nutrition, physical activity, and cardiometabolic health to support study objectives.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams across the Center for Healthful Behavior Change, including faculty, clinicians, and researchers.
  • Analyze study data and prepare detailed reports on findings.
  • Contribute to the labs research dissemination efforts by authoring scientific papers and preparing grant applications.
  • Provide mentorship and leadership to research staff and students involved in the project.
  • Maintain compliance with institutional and regulatory standards for human subjects research.
  • Stay current with developments in clinical trial methodologies and relevant scientific literature to inform ongoing research activities.
Minimum Qualifications

MS degree with at least 1 year of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Doctoral degree preferably in public health, health education, psychology, population health, or medicine. Experience in prior management and research roles; working knowledge of healthcare, population health, health education, psychology; experience with mixed methods approaches, grant application processes, IRB and manuscript preparation; substantial postdoctoral training; established record of publications.

Salary: NYU Langone Health provides a salary range to comply with the New York state Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $55,000.00$70,000.00 annually. Actual salaries depend on factors such as experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. The listed range does not include bonuses, differential pay, or other forms of compensation or benefits.
