Department Profile:

The WM and U.S. Banks 1L Financial Crimes Risk Team is embedded within the Firms business line. It is responsible for identifying, assessing, and escalating potential money laundering and reputational risk issues associated with higher risk client types. The WM and U.S. Banks 1L Financial Crimes Risk Team is considered the first line of defense and supports the onboarding, enhanced due diligence, and negative news processes for Morgan Stanley.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Assist in maintaining the 1L Financial Crimes Risk Procedure Governance Program
  • Provide horizontal oversight of procedure documentation across the 1L Financial Crimes Risk organization, ensuring consistency between documents and teams
  • Maintain the golden source procedure inventory where all procedure documents are recorded and tracked
  • Review and challenge all procedure documents; serve as a tollgate for the publication of all Financial Crimes Risk procedure documents
  • Ensure procedure governance best practices are followed; including but not limited to, ensuring documents are updated timely, there are appropriate version controls, approvals are obtained and documented, and maintaining a clear audit trail
  • Provide reporting to senior management on the status of procedure updates and regularly reach out to key stakeholders for status updates
  • Assist in the development and management of policy and procedure exception processes
  • Assist procedure owners with the coordination of approvals of documents, as needed
  • Suggest process enhancements and changes to process owners, as applicable
  • Maintain inventory of historic procedure iterations, along with corresponding approvals, and provide requested procedure documentation as part of regulatory or audit requests
  • Liaise with process owners, program management teams, training, and communication teams to drive change, provide input and feedback on project plans, communications, and trainings
  • Develop concise and effective reporting and presentations for senior leadership
  • Support ad-hoc projects and initiatives from a procedure perspective

Required Experience:

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in financial crimes/AML
  • Experience drafting and/or managing procedures
  • Bachelors degree in Business, Finance, or another related field
  • Experience supporting compliance projects

Ability to:

  • Distill complex ideas and concepts into actionable items
  • Work in a matrixed organization; leveraging resources across the organization to complete deliverables

  • Handle highly confidential information professionally and with appropriate discretion

Additional Skills Desired:

  • Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialist (CAMS) designation is a plus
  • Working knowledge of MS Office (Microsoft Excel/PowerPoint/Word/Access)
  • General knowledge of AML regulatory requirements and expectations (domestic and international)
  • Strong time management and planning skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing

Expected base pay rates for the role will be between $100,000 and $135,000 per year at the commencement of employment. However, base pay if hired will be determined on an individualized basis and is only part of the total compensation package, which, depending on the position, may also include commission earnings, incentive compensation, discretionary bonuses, other short and long-term incentive packages, and other Morgan Stanley sponsored benefit programs.
