Assistant Research Scientist (JR-0001546)The Assistant Research Scientist will be responsible for assisting with the analysis of ultra-trace levels of organic chemicals in human and environmental specimens including sample preparation, extraction, instrumental analysis, data analysis, and preparation of data reports. The incumbent will also be responsible for assisting with maintenance of LC-MS/MS and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) instruments.
This position will be part of a dynamic team serving the Wadsworth Centers mission in the New York State Department of Healths efforts to protect and promote the health of New Yorks citizens. Come be a part of Science in the Pursuit of Health!
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelors degree in a related field and one year of research experience; OR a masters degree in a related field.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in measuring a multiclass of environmental chemicals comprising of plasticizers, environmental phenols, and pesticides through a single extraction and LC-MS/MS analysis in human biological specimens such as urine and blood. Experience in measuring single class organic environmental chemicals such as perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), organophosphate ester (OPE) flame retardants and plasticizers (OPFR), oxidative stress biomarkers, pesticides, plasticizers, environmental phenols, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), tobacco metabolites, and volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in human biological specimens at ultra trace levels. Experience in participating in NIH funded human biomonitoring research projects such as HHEAR (Human Health Exposure Analysis Resource) and ECHO (Environmental Influences on Children Health Outcomes). Experience in participating in proficiency testing programs, such as the German External Quality Assessment Scheme (G-EQUAS), Organic Substances in Urine Quality Assessment Scheme (OSEQAS), and AMAP Ring Test for Persistent Organic Pollutants in Human Serum (AMAP).
Conditions of Employment
Grant funded position. Compliance with funding requirements such as time and effort reporting, grant deliverables, and contract deliverables, is required.
The selected candidate must reside within a reasonable commuting distance of the official work location specified in the job posting and must also be located in or willing to relocate to one of the following states: New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Vermont, or Massachusetts, prior to hire. Telecommuting will not be available.
