Assistant Regional Park Recreation Coordinator, SG-16

Under the direction of the Assistant Regional Director, the Assistant Regional Park Recreation Coordinator, SG-16 will support the development and delivery of inclusive, high impact recreational programming throughout the Central Region. Duties include, but are not limited to:

Perform, implement, and oversee the Ladders to the Outdoors program, ensuring alignment with agency goals and educational standards.

Coordinate logistics, scheduling, and staffing for program delivery across multiple park sites, particularly in underserved areas.

Develop and maintain partnerships with local schools, nonprofit organizations, and community stakeholders to expand outreach.

Actively solicit, negotiate, and manage corporate and business sponsorships, as well as private and public grants, to support region-wide and single-park special events.

Assist in designing and executing large scale recreational, educational, and cultural events across the Central Region.

Maintain records and prepare reports on participation, engagement metrics, and funding outcomes.

Collaborate with park managers, education staff, and public affairs to promote and enhance programming visibility.

Represent the agency at community events, stakeholder meetings, and grant-related functions as needed.

Ensure programming is compliant with all relevant safety, accessibility, and agency policies.

May supervise seasonal or part-time staff, interns, or volunteers assigned to support programming.

Minimum Qualifications:

This title is part of the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide Program (NY HELPS).** To be considered for appointment through NY HELPS, or 55 b/c, candidates must meet the open-competitive minimum qualifications for this position. The qualifications are:

Five years of experience in an organized recreation program, two years of which must have been in the coordination and implementation of the program and included one year of supervisory experience.

Additional Comments:

OPERATING NEEDS:

Must be able to work a variable schedule that includes weekends and hours as needed.

Must be physically able to perform medium to heavy physical labor.

Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license that allows the candidate to legally operate a motor vehicle in New York State as a term and condition of employment.

Must become CPR/AED First Aid certified within the probationary period as a term and condition of employment.
