Assistant Project Manager – Civil Engineering
San Luis Obispo, CA | Central Coast Projects
Full-Time | Salary: $90,000–$110,000
A well-established civil engineering firm is looking for a driven Assistant Project Manager to play a key role in the design and technical development of civil engineering projects, with the opportunity to support project management functions and client coordination. What You'll Be Doing
- Lead civil design efforts, including grading, drainage, water and sewer systems, and stormwater management (SWM/SWCP).
- Produce Design Documents for project entitlements and Construction Documents for residential, commercial, and public works projects.
- Perform hydrology calculations and prepare reports that align with municipal and regulatory standards.
- Use AutoCAD Civil 3D and hydrology software to develop clear, code-compliant engineering plans.
- Assist with project management tasks such as tracking budgets, schedules, and consultant coordination.
- Communicate with clients, consultants, and permitting agencies to ensure expectations are clear and execution is smooth.
- Help mentor junior engineers and contribute to a collaborative, growth-oriented team environment.
What You Bring
- B.S. in Civil Engineering or related field
- PE license in California (or EIT with intent to obtain PE soon)
- 4–6 years of experience in civil engineering with an emphasis on technical design
- Strong experience in AutoCAD Civil 3D; hydrology software a bonus
- Experience in grading, drainage, utilities, and stormwater design
- Familiarity with municipal SWM/SWCP regulations
- Solid organizational skills and the ability to juggle design work with project coordination
- A collaborative mindset and desire to mentor junior staff
