Duties and ResponsibilitiesTeaches a 4/4 load (3/4 first year) of classes, ranging from French 101 to upper-level undergraduate French language classes and graduate courses in Francophone literature, culture, and translation studies; advises students; conducts research; proposes new French courses and programs (majors); provides leadership in world languages; serves on departmental, college, and/or university committees; writes proposals for public and private grants; plans and facilitates study abroad trips; promotes the study of French and other world languages and cultures to the university community; performs other related duties as assigned. This is a full-time tenure track faculty position that may require teaching in the evenings and/or weekends. The ideal candidate will begin teaching during the Spring 2023 or Fall 2023 semester.
Conditions of EmploymentSalary Range: $62,000 $65,000, depending on qualifications and experience. Offer of employment is contingent upon successful completion of due diligence background check and verification of credential. Proof of U.S. citizenship or eligibility for U.S. employment (Immigration Control Act of 1986). Please be advised, COVID-19 vaccinations are not required but encouraged for all eligible students, faculty and staff returning to USM institutions. This protocol is subject to change.
ExperienceMinimum of two (2) years of college/university teaching experience; strong peer-reviewed, scholarly publication record in area of specialization or strong research potential; demonstrated ability to effectively teach French undergraduate and graduate courses; knowledge of and experience in developing and evaluating French courses and French academic programs; demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching, research/scholarship, and university/community service; excellent communication skills; digital information technology skills including Blackboard a must; ability to teach another language is a plus.
EducationA Ph.D. or doctoral degree required in the study and teaching of the French language, Francophone literature, and related cultures; teaching and research interests in French-speaking communities in the Caribbean, the Americas, and Africa is a plus as is a film studies background.
