Assistant Professor, Evolution, Ecology & Behavior - Veterans Staffing : Job Details

The Department of Evolution, Ecology and Behavior and the School of Integrative Biology at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign invite applications from biologists with a record of research in evolution, morphology, and/or development for a full-time, 9-month, tenure-track faculty position at the assistant professor level, with the anticipated start date of August 16, 2026.

The successful candidate will engage in research and teaching in evolutionary development and/or morphological evolution, including comparative anatomy, evolution, development, phenotypic plasticity, or physiology. We are also interested in research on the effects of stress (including the impact of climate, social structure, and parental resources) on development and organismal resilience. We are also interested in individuals applying novel research techniques, including genomics, precise sequencing or imaging, advanced measures of physiology, and/or lab or field-based experimental designs.

The successful candidate will be expected to have an externally funded research program and collaborate with other faculty to develop research initiatives; this position provides an opportunity to be part of dynamic and well-established communities of integrative biologists with interests spanning a wide range of taxa in the School of Integrative Biology, as well as many interdisciplinary programs across the campus, including the Illinois Natural History Survey, which houses several large vertebrate and invertebrate collections, the Carl R. Woese Institute for Genomic Biology, and the Beckman Institute for Science and Technology. Responsibilities also include teaching and participation in both undergraduate and graduate training.

The successful candidate must have a Ph.D. in ecology, evolution, biology, zoology, genetics/genomics, conservation biology, or a related discipline. Applicants must show evidence of research productivity and evidence (or promise of developing) teaching and mentorship effectiveness at the undergraduate and graduate levels.

The budgeted salary range for the position is $89,000 to $98,000 at the Assistant Professor level, for a 9-month service basis.
