Position: Assistant Professor of Clinical Research

Department: College of Pharmacy & Health Sciences

Status: Full Time

Position Summary:

The College of Pharmacy & Health Sciences at Campbell University seeks a dynamic and dedicated full-time faculty member for the Department of Pharmaceutical & Clinical Sciences, with a primary focus on Clinical Research. This renewable, one-year appointment is based at the main campus in Buies Creek, North Carolina. The position involves teaching in both the seated Bachelor of Science (BS) in Clinical Research and the online Master of Science (MS) in Clinical Research programs, developing innovative course materials, mentoring students, and advancing scholarly research in clinical research methodologies and outcomes. This position requires active participation in service activities at the departmental, college, and university levels. The successful candidate will balance responsibilities in teaching (~70%), research/scholarship (between ~20%), and service (~10%), contributing to the growth and reputation of our clinical research programs.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Teach and develop course materials in clinical research for the MS and BS programs, incorporating innovative, evidence-based teaching strategies that enhance student engagement and learning outcomes.
  • Assess student performance through exams, assignments, quizzes, reports, and presentations, providing timely and constructive feedback.
  • Mentor and advise undergraduate and graduate students, guiding them in academic progress, research projects, and career development.
  • Establish and maintain a research program in clinical research, focusing on applications related to clinical research topics of personal professional interest as well as those related to student capstone design and research projects with the goal of publishing in peer-reviewed journals. The ability to secure external funding is also desirable.
  • Engage in service activities at the department, college, and university levels, including committee work, curriculum development, and student organization support.
  • Promote interprofessional education and outreach by participating in activities that enhance the understanding and impact of clinical research in healthcare and the scientific community.
  • Maintain a professional appearance and demeanor at all times.
  • Uphold and abide by Campbell University policies and procedures, including but not limited to Title IX, and Information Security, FERPA and other state and federal mandates.
  • Perform other duties as assigned, adapting to evolving responsibilities in teaching, research, and service.

Education/Experience:

  • A Master of Science (MS) or higher degree in clinical research or a related field.
  • Demonstrated experience or knowledge of clinical trial design, regulatory affairs, data management, research ethics, project management, and other areas of clinical research.
  • Strong background in both didactic and online instruction, with experience in applied clinical research methodologies.
  • Demonstrated track record of independent research or scholarly activities relevant to the field.
  • 2-5 years of experience in higher education or related academic roles is strongly desired.

  • Work independently and contribute effectively in teams with a diverse group of people.
  • Exercise independent judgment in complex and dynamic environments.
  • Manage multiple, concurrent projects, and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work occasional evening or weekend hours to support student activities.
