Build New Hampshire.NHDOT Recruitment BrochureThe State of New Hampshire, Department of Transportation, Bureau of Highway Maintenance, District 1, has a full-time vacancy for an Assistant Highway District Administrator.SUMMARY: To direct and supervise highway operations within a highway district of the Department of Transportation with responsibility for district personnel, budgets, facilities and equipment.YOUR EXPERIENCE COUNTS: Each additional year of approved formal education may be substituted for one year of required work experience and/or each additional year of approved work experience may be substituted for one year of required formal education. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:Education/Experience: Education: Bachelor's degree from an accredited institute of higher education with a major study in in engineering, engineering technology, construction management, business or public administration/management, geography, government, resources management, or community development. Each additional year of approved formal education may be substituted for one year of required work experience.Experience: Nine years of post-baccalaureate experience in engineering, engineering technology, construction management, business or public administration/management, geography, government, resources management, or community development. Each additional year of approved work experience may be substituted for one year of required formal education.License/Certification:Valid driver's license or access to transportation.Other Requirements:The applicant's Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) must meet the minimum standards as established by the hiring agency.Trainee Option:Candidates with an equivalent combination of 12+ years of relevant education and experience after completion of high school may be considered and hired in 'trainee status' for this position.PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Professional Engineer License preferred.RESPONSIBILITIES:Performs consulting with utilities, local officials, engineering firms and others regarding requests for utility installation including pipelines, cables, conduits, and utility poles within highway limits, for construction or alteration of drives giving access to highways, and for issuing of permits for such work. Inspects the utility installation activities to ensure compliance with specifications and established policy. Oversees issuing of utility licenses to public utilities occupying sites within highway rights of way.Plans, directs, and supervises activities of a large highway district organization with responsibility for ensuring the integrity and safety of the state highway system and for providing safe all-weather travel.Formulates strategies, plans, and policies to expeditiously accomplish the Departments objectives and goals.Monitors, adjusts, and supervises the accounting of district budget to insure efficient accomplishment of goals within mandated constraints.Evaluates the performance of personnel, equipment, systems, and facilities to ensure maximum utilization of potential to accomplish Department's goals and objectives.Responds to emergency situations, at any hour of any day, to protect the highway system and to provide for public safety and convenience.Responds to inquiries from highway abutters, the traveling public, and appointed elected officials on the local, state, and federal level.Trains, evaluates, and supervises staff to delegate assignments to further the Department's objectives.Represents the Department at various meetings, hearings, and court proceedings.Disclaimer Statement: The supplemental job description lists the essential functions of the position and is not intended to include every job duty and responsibility specific to the position.
