Responsibilities
- This position oversees prevention and harm reduction efforts using a population level public health framework, ensures learning and other outcomes are measured, leads cross-campus collaborations, and directs the Collegiate Recovery Program (CRP).
- The Assistant Director supervises the Substance Use Prevention staff, represents the Center for Health Advocacy and Wellness (CHAW) in strategic initiatives, and ensures compliance with federal mandates like the Biennial Review.
- Provides vision, strategic planning, and high-level coordination for substance use prevention, harm reduction, and recovery efforts at FSU.
- Stays current on national trends and best practices in substance use prevention areas.
- Oversees the planning, implementation, and evaluation of programs, services, policies, and educational efforts grounded in a public health model.
- Serves as chair or representative on campus-wide committees including the Substance Use Prevention Taskforce.
- Identifies and prioritizes needs using campus data and applies evidence-based models to create environmental and policy-level prevention strategies.
- Ensures learning and other outcomes are measured through qualitative and quantitative data collection and assessment, and oversees impact of initiatives and reports on program effectiveness.
- Oversees the management of the online educational modules (Vector) and utilizes the data for evaluation, tracking trends and engaging with students.
- Supports, supervises, and mentors the Health Promotion Specialist – Substance Use Prevention and students engaged in substance use prevention and CRPrelated initiatives (peer educators, graduate assistants, and interns).
- Cultivates and maintains partnerships and trainings with key stakeholders across campus including Student Conduct, Housing, Health Services, Athletics, and Faculty. Integrates prevention efforts into academic and other student settings.
- Collaborates with local and state organizations and community coalitions to bring resources and best practices to campus and participate in local public health initiatives. Pursues grant opportunities in substance use prevention efforts.
- Presents at conferences and contributes to the field through scholarship or leadership.
- Collaborates across CHAW focus areas and mental health to ensure integrated and holistic approaches to student wellbeing.
- Leads FSU's compliance with the Drug-Free Schools and Communities Act through oversight of the Biennial Review process.
Qualifications
Master's Degree and 2 years of experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of the standard concepts, practices, and procedures within medical, health, human services, and counseling programs.
- Knowledge of student programs and activities.
- Ability to develop and implement policies, procedures, goals, and objectives.
- Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
