MALCOLM X COLLEGE

Malcolm X College is seeking an Assistant Director of Safety and Security to ensure a safe environment for students, faculty, staff, and visitors. The ideal candidate will have law enforcement experience, supervisory background, and a commitment to student success. Campus Safety and Security operates 24/7 to maintain safety.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Assist in investigating complaints and crimes, recommend procedures to minimize losses, and inform campus community about safety policies.
  • Serve as second-in-command in the absence of the Director of Security.
  • Supervise security operations at satellite locations as needed.
  • Review incident reports, initiate follow-up actions, and report to the Director of Security.
  • Ensure safety and security of all facility users, enforcing policies and procedures.
  • Use necessary force only when authorized, such as when off-duty sworn officers detain offenders or when acting in self-defense, in accordance with laws.
  • Participate in recruitment, hiring, training, evaluation, and discipline of security personnel.
  • Assist in staffing planning and supervision of security staff, providing feedback and conducting evaluations.
  • Conduct staff meetings and training to improve security operations.
  • Appear in court or government hearings related to campus incidents when required.
  • Represent the college at district-wide meetings as needed.
  • Verify security staff time and attendance records.
  • Adhere to CCC Customer Service standards.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
    • QUALIFICATIONS:
    • B.A. degree in a related field preferred, plus 3-4 years law enforcement experience and 2 years supervisory experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
    • Knowledge of relevant statutes and ordinances.
    • Ability to handle situations tactfully, persuasively, and diplomatically.
    • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
    • Working knowledge of computers and relevant software is a plus.
    • Good decision-making skills, firmness, and understanding when dealing with students and staff.
    • Excellent employment record.
    • Physical ability to perform duties.

    Salary: $49,561 - $60,400, determined by education, skills, and experience.
