Position Overview

This role is responsible for the creation, delivery and assessment of a comprehensive program of evidenced based/informed prevention strategies, including alcohol/other drugs and sexual violence. Responsible for staying appraised for both the relevant health and well-being needs of college students as well as most indicated practices in the field of prevention. Oversees a team of graduate students and undergraduate peer wellness educators who help to deliver the prevention and health promotion programming and outreach to the campus community related to Alcohol/Other Drugs ( AOD ) and Interpersonal Violence ( IPV ). This position will supervise advocacy services.

Duties and Responsibilities

1. Strategic and operational leadership in the design, implementation and assessment of comprehensive alcohol and other drug prevention education initiatives that address high risk student/community behaviors; the healthy majority; students in recovery; campus/community norms and misperceptions related to alcohol/other drug use and interpersonal/sexual violence. Use efforts driven by recommendations from college student prevention and health promotion research and practice standards. Administer mandatory curriculums (AlcoholEdu, Red Watch Band) as part of the public health approach on campus through peer educators. Strategies and programing will be implemented from a culturally congruent, socially just, public health approach.2. Develop, deliver and assess interpersonal violence prevention strategies that are culturally relevant and inclusive, to include the mandatory curriculums ( BITB , Sexual Violence Prevention) and work to address campus culture.3. Supervise the Victim Advocate and the after-hours victim advocacy network; provide oversight of confidential advocacy services to students. Assure all care is from a trauma informed lens. Serve as back up on call during business hours when Advocate is unavailable. Responsible for the supervision of staff, which includes but is not limited to hiring, terming, disciplinary actions, performance management, staff development, etc.4. Responsible for the supervision of student employees, which includes but is not limited to hiring, training, disciplinary actions, ending the student's assignment, etc. Supervise graduate students and a team of peer health educators to deliver peer-to-peer evidenced based, dynamic and engaging educational workshops to enhance overall health and wellness of students on campus.5. Develop an assessment plan and a communication plan for reporting information to leadership and the campus community. Participate in University assessment/learning outcome as requested. As part of program assessment, will be responsible for the Biennial Review, every 2 years.6. Identify and collaborate with campus partners and key stakeholders, with student groups; staff/faculty in support of education and training the campus community in health promoting attitudes and behaviors related to alcohol and other drugs and sexual violence/interpersonal violence.7. Engage campus community is addressing high risk events and provide leadership and guidance re: strategies to reducing high risk use of alcohol and other drugs and appropriately message and enforce community standards.8. Remain current with national and campus trends related to student health behaviors and evidenced based prevention practice standards; participate in survey administration, report writing and presentations when indicated.9. Engage in collaborative relationships with the other Wellness + Recreation units (Medical Clinic, Counseling Center, Campus Recreation) and develop programming and involve Peer Wellness Educators in shared efforts related to college student well-being and health promoting behaviors. This work is expected to be highly collaborative, consulting with health professionals in the Medical Clinic and Counseling Center, and Campus Recreation staff for subject matter expertise and collaborative programing to meet the University's strategic goals of a healthy campus and thriving student body.10. Manage programming and operational budget in collaboration with other unit leadership.11. Performs all other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Master's degree in public health, Health Promotion, Health Education, Social Work, Counseling or related fieldA minimum of 4 years of professional work experience in prevention and/or health promotionSupervision experience

Experience in curriculum development and implementation of theory-based prevention strategies

Experience related to AOD prevention, risk reduction strategies

Experience IPV /Gender based violence related issues

Ability to collaborate and work autonomously

Creative problem solving

Manage multiple projects/tasks simultaneously

Some evening and weekend hours are required.
