Purpose Of This Position Reporting to the Director for Student Involvement and Connections and contributing to the overall mission of the Office for Student Involvement and Connections, the Assistant Director for Student Involvement and Programming is specifically responsible for serving as the primary resource for clubs and organizations as well as providing oversight of a comprehensive programming model for student involvement that is in support of institutional strategic goals.
Purpose Of This Position Reporting to the Director for Student Involvement and Connections and contributing to the overall mission of the Office for Student Involvement and Connections, the Assistant Director for Student Involvement and Programming is specifically responsible for serving as the primary resource for clubs and organizations as well as providing oversight of a comprehensive programming model for student involvement that is in support of institutional strategic goals. Essential Job Functions
- Serve as the primary resource for clubs and organizations including activation, ordering and professional development of members.
- Supervise program and logistical arrangements for local and regional off-campus travel programs sponsored by the office as well as educational conferences for clubs and organizations.
- Develop and conducts on-going training for clubs and organizations, 4 class councils and all advisors in the area of programming basics for clubs and organizations, with a special emphasis on weekend programming.
- Oversee and approve student marketing for programming and events on and off campus.
- Provide oversight to weekly and weekend programming (e.g. Golden Hours).
- Oversee all aspects of student involvement including coordination of the Student Activities and Involvement Expo as well as a broad range of student engagement activities (e.g. clubs and organizations, including club sports, media groups, upper-class class councils, performing arts camp, etc.).
- Supervise student staff within the Office of Student Involvement and Connections
- Conduct office calendar meetings for co-curricular programming; monitor offerings throughout the semester and ensure advertising accordingly via online and social media platforms.
- Monitor expenditures, track revenue sources, and provide financial reports to the Director of Student Involvement and Connections and relevant stakeholders as needed.
- Maintain record of programming and student attendance throughout the year.
- Work closely with the Resident Director(s) assigned to upper-class student residence halls, the commuter student advisor, and all of the club and organization advisors, to collaboratively engage all students into the life of the University and to help students make informed decisions about how they spend their time and energy.
- Coordinate on-site student representation from Clubs and Organizations for undergraduate Admissions Open House programs.
- Manage the purchasing process.
- Serve as advisor to clubs and organizations including Campus Activities Board (CAB), class council program, directly advising one to two class councils.
- Serve on University-wide committee(s) based on professional preference and/or as directed.
- Participate in official university events including but not limited to: homecoming, family and friends weekend, honors convocation, fall orientation, SOAR, co-curricular banquet and graduation.
- Serve as a presenter for relevant leadership topics to a variety of audiences including professional staff.
- Maintain visibility within the University Community through attendance at University functions, particularly Activities and events in support of student involvement and connections.
- Performs other relevant duties as assigned by the Director of Student Involvement and Connections
Required Knowledge, Skill And Abilities
- Bachelor's degree required, Master's degree preferred, in Student Affairs, Higher Education Administration, Counseling, or related field.
- Minimum of 2-3 years of experience working in student activities, event planning, or related areas within a higher education setting.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines in an active office environment with a diverse constituency and high student traffic.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to communicate orally and in writing in a clear, civil and concise manner.
- Ability to communicate both orally and in writing with a variety of University constituents such as but not limited to: entertainment vendors, parents, and community partners.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and event management software.
- The ability to understand and apply concepts gained through professional journals, literature and conference attendance.
- Strong understanding of student development theory, leadership principles, and best practices in student engagement.
- Ability to drive and possess a valid drivers license
Ergonomic Requirements
- Sitting, standing, bending and reaching in a routine office environment.
- Carrying and setting up equipment.
- Sufficient mobility to independently navigate the University campus.
