The College of Performing Arts at The New School is seeking a highly qualified Assistant Director of Operations. Reporting to the Vice Dean for Finance and Administration, the Assistant Director provides strategic leadership and oversight of academic administration, full- and part-time faculty affairs, and operational efficiency across the College. This role ensures that College academic operations, faculty-related policies and procedures, and administrative processes support the academic mission and student experience while maintaining compliance with the University's institutional policies and two implemented part-time faculty collective bargaining agreements (CBAs). The Assistant Director will develop administrative processes ensuring clarity, consistency, and integrity of the College of Performing Arts central and school-based administrative teams.
The Assistant Director is an experienced leader with expertise in performing arts education, academic operations, labor relations, employee hiring and onboarding procedures, and institutional compliance. This role will serve as a trusted collaborator with college leadership, ensuring that all resources are efficiently optimized in order for academic operations to run seamlessly. In addition, the Assistant Director will be responsible for creating, analyzing, and streamlining process documents related but not limited to: academic operations including budget & financial resources, faculty workload and academic reviews, College special projects and initiatives.

RESPONSIBILITIES
- Serve as the primary Human Resources Partner at the College of Performing Arts for all employee groups, developing and directing the operations related to search & hire, onboarding, activity-based compensation, and other personnel-related processes.
- Direct all administrative processes related to student employment at the College of Performing Arts, including for Federal Work-Study and Academic Student Workers (represented by SENS-UAW Local 7902). Collaborate with the Office of Human Resources, International Student and Scholar Services, Student Success, and other University-wide departments to maximize student experience within on-campus student employment.
- Serve as the primary liaison to the university's Faculty Affairs and Labor Relations teams, ensuring compliance with academic policies, labor laws, implementing collective bargaining agreements, and university-wide best practices for all college faculty (full- and part-time) matters.
- Support the College in operationalizing processes for existing and new full-time faculty: searches, reviews, academic leave, onboarding, and teaching assignments to ensure placement for workload obligations are maximized to best meet curricular needs.
- Provide procedural guidance to College of Performing Arts community members including all staff, faculty, and university partners, fostering a culture of continuous improvement, innovation, and collaboration to result in maximized efficiency of processes and resources (financial, human, and space) to benefit student experience.
- Supervise and provide mentorship to one direct staff report: the Coordinator of Administration.
- Other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's Degree.
- Three years of progressive experience in higher education administration roles, or the equivalent in non-profit or other organization, including strategic planning, and faculty management.
- Superlative operational skills with the desire to work as part of a highly motivated team. Effective problem-solving and communication skills are essential.
- Demonstrated experience with development of varied and complex data/programmatic analyses and reports in support of strategic decision-making.
- Experienced or able to learn and develop fluency in The New School's suite of applications including Google Suite, Microsoft Office, WorkDay, Tableau, Banner, and 25Live.
- Strong proficiency in Google Sheets and/or Microsoft Excel, including advanced functions such as QUERY, VLOOKUP, IF statements, pivot tables, and data validation.
- Ability to create and maintain detailed Google Sheets and/or Microsoft Excel documents for tracking and reporting purposes.
- A belief in the transformative nature of arts education, PreK-20, and a deep appreciation and interest in core areas of practice for the College of Performing Arts, including drama and music.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Advanced degree(s) or certification(s) in business operations, human resources, data management, finance, accounting, higher education administration, and/or arts administration.
- Expert in Google Sheets and/or Microsoft Excel, including advanced formulas, pivot tables, data analysis, and automating workflows using Google Suite and/or Microsoft Office.
- Experience with mail merges, data manipulation, complex calculations, and the creation of dynamic dashboards and reports using Google Sheets.
WORK MODE
Hybrid/Split - Employees hired for this position have regularly scheduled, consistent percentage of time on campus (ex 1-4x/week) and also work some of the time remotely.
SALARY RANGE
$74,000 - $80,000 per annum.
