Capital District Psychiatric Center- Assistant Director of Nursing 1 Psychiatric, Quality, Education, and Training

Capital District Psychiatric Center (CDPC), an Office of Mental Health (OMH) Joint Commission accredited hospital, is recruiting an Assistant Director of Nursing 1 Psychiatric (ADON) to oversee Quality, Education, and Training for all Nursing Staff.

CDPC provides inpatient and outpatient treatment and rehabilitation to adults who have been diagnosed with serious mental illness, outpatient treatment services for children and adolescents diagnosed with serious emotional disturbances and operates adult community residences in the Albany/Capital District area. CDPC is committed to supporting underserved individuals, organizations, and communities along with activities and initiatives to reduce disparities in access, quality, and treatment for underserved populations.

Under the direction of the Director of Nursing 3 (DON) the ADON for Quality, Education, and Training is responsible for developing and monitoring the nursing department training curriculum and competencies, including:

  • Monitoring the provision of nursing services to ensure quality care and compliance with nursing philosophy, objectives, policies, and standards in accordance with OMH, The Joint Commission (TJC), Health Care Financing Administration (HCFA), facility specific, and other accreditation agency standards.
  • Providing nursing-specific technical assistance, guidance, and consultation to facility staff and providers.
  • Participating in nursing recruitment and retention efforts.
  • Conducting new nurse orientation and participating in training and development of inpatient and outpatient nursing staff.
  • Performing quality assurance activities such as performance improvement initiatives, corrective actions, reports and recommends modifications related to the nursing aspects of care, policies, and/or procedures.
  • Assisting in preparing for regulatory site visits and surveys.
  • Overseeing Nursing Education Programs for all nursing services including, Nursing Students, Nurse Residency Program, Pathway to Excellence
  • Developing and assigning training classes that ensure competencies and staff development.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Possession of a license and current registration as a registered professional nurse in New York State; and
  • Bachelor's degree in nursing; and
  • Two years of post-licensure professional clinical nursing experience* working with individuals, at least 50% of whom have been diagnosed with mental illness, addiction, or substance use disorder. One year of this experience must be at a supervisory level.

*A master's degree in nursing can substitute for one year of non-supervisory post-licensure clinical experience.
