Position Summary:

We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as an Assistant Director of Infection Prevention and Control.

In this role, the successful candidate will fulfill core responsibilities of an Infection Preventionist and play a key leadership role in the department. This includes coordinating infection prevention activities, education, surveillance, and ensuring regulatory compliance. The Assistant Director will assist in managing the Infection Prevention Department, overseeing IPC initiatives, and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams. Regular interaction, consultation, and education of hospital staff on infection prevention practices are essential.

Job Responsibilities:
  • Interact with physicians, nurses, department managers, and other staff to serve as a resource for infection prevention.
  • Provide interim leadership and departmental coverage in the absence of the Director.
  • Monitor and ensure compliance with infection prevention policies and regulations (TJC, CMS, OSHA, CDC, state and local agencies).
  • Review and revise hospital policies and guidelines to align with best practices.
  • Collaborate with hospital committees to implement infection reduction strategies.
  • Support regulatory inspections and ensure compliance across departments.
  • Assist with data collection and reporting for infection prevention and quality committees.
  • Contribute to infection control planning related to construction, renovation, and workflows.
  • Oversee investigations of outbreaks and manage epidemiologically significant events.
  • Support emergency preparedness activities related to infection prevention.
  • Ensure safety, quality, and proper recordkeeping standards are met.
  • Supervise investigations of reprocessing failures and transmission events, developing corrective actions.
  • Promote ongoing education and professional development in infection prevention.
  • Model a culture of safety and quality.
  • Perform other duties as assigned, including temporary operational needs.
  • Minimum Qualifications:

    Master's degree in Nursing, Health Care Administration, Public Administration, or related field with 5+ years of progressive infection prevention experience, or a Bachelor's degree with 7+ years of experience. Valid NY State Nursing License and active CBIC certification are required. Proficiency in MS Office applications is necessary.

    Required Licenses:

    Registered Nurse License-NYS

    Preferred Qualifications:

    Experience with surveillance systems, data analysis, and knowledge of regulatory standards (TJC, CMS, OSHA, CDC, NYSDOH). Demonstrated leadership and communication skills are preferred.

    Qualified candidates must communicate effectively across all organizational levels.
