DescriptionJob SummaryThe Assistant Director of Development for Land-Grant Engagement-serving the Davis College of Agriculture and Natural Resources, WVU Extension, and the Center for Community Engagement-is responsible for identifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding philanthropic gifts up to $49,999, with some activity occurring at the major gift level ($50,000+). This position will manage a portfolio of assigned prospects and play a key role in expanding philanthropic support across WVU's land-grant mission areas.The Assistant Director will also coordinate closely with the WVU Foundation's Annual Giving program to align on annual strategies, outreach, and stewardship plans, and will support the planning and execution of donor visits to campus in partnership with unit leadership and Foundation colleagues.Duties and ResponsibilitiesEssential Functions and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.Execute qualifying discussions to define philanthropic aspirations of individuals, corporations, and foundations identified by the WVU Foundation Prospect Discovery and Strategy program to secure donations between $5,000 - $49,999. Manage a portfolio of donors and prospects, as defined by working with the WVU Foundation, through qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship.Plan, schedule, and complete travel, mostly regional with some overnight, to contact prospects and donors in completion of portfolio/pipeline management. Maintain a comprehensive working knowledge of the Division and University, including mission, history, and current fundraising priorities assuring effective representation of all opportunities and priorities for private support.Build and manage a network of relationships with prospective donors involving University and Division leadership, faculty and volunteers. Facilitate and coordinate all communication with these prospects and among the prospect's campus relationships.Partner with the Division's departments to execute annual corporate and foundation solicitations including for event sponsorships (for example recruiting events).Coordinate with the Foundation's Annual Giving program to prepare materials for the RNL synergy plan, Day of Giving and annual giving level projects.Coordinate with the Foundation's Donor Engagement program to develop and execute personalized stewardship plans for select donors and prospects as agreed upon at the Division level. In conjunction with the Executive Director of Development and Associate Director of Development, coordinate the nomination process for various recognitions, such as the Order of Vandalia, Academy of Distinguished Alumni, Departmental Academies, Honorary Degree, Mountaineer Week Most Loyals, Homecoming Awards, among others.Work with the Division student and volunteer groups/project teams to identify funding opportunities and guide them through the annual giving/crowdfunding process.Provide assistance for on campus events where prospects and donors are the primary audience including but not limited to donor/prospect site visits, Alumni Academies, 4-H Camps, Fairs (alumni and corporate partner hosting), Homecoming, Emeriti luncheon, managing tickets to WVU sporting events from College and Foundation resources.Comply with all WVU Foundation reporting and accountability standards and coordinate development efforts with University Units development staff as needed.Complete additional assignments as may be required by the supervisor, other Foundation senior management or the Division's Dean as appropriate.QualificationsEducation, Experience and Competencies: Education and/or Experience Candidates must have a Bachelor's degree. A minimum of 1 year of direct and progressively responsible experience in annual/major/planned gift fundraising or other employment involving similar direct client engagement is required. Experience with 4-H Youth Development preferred.Computer Skills Proficiency in computer and internet usage is necessary. Ability to accurately enter data into a database and recall information through reports is necessary. Physical Demands Air travel may be required.
