Assistant Director, Laboratory Services at Barnes Jewish Hospital (St. Louis, MO)

Role Purpose

The Assistant Director has an emphasis on BJC System initiatives and interacts with other BJC lab leaders. This position provides support to the Laboratory Executive Director and Regional Director and is responsible for the operational, financial, and human resource management of all cost centers associated with their assigned areas. Responsibilities involve clinical and business development of their lab area(s) and collaboration with other assistant directors to ensure clinical best practices are implemented and maintained.

Responsibilities

  • Manages individual(s) including onboarding and hiring, training, workload management & performance evaluations, and conducting professional development plans as needed.
  • Evaluates, develops, and maintains standards of practice for assigned departments.
  • Ensures compliance with system and hospital policies, and all regulatory requirements.
  • Has input into developing budgets (FTE, revenue, and expense) and responds to changes in the business which may affect the ability to achieve budget goals.
  • Actively integrates performance improvement initiatives to improve clinical quality and safety.
  • Integrates services for BJC labs by working collaboratively with lab leadership and peers within BJC.
  • This is a safety-sensitive position; the ability to work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner is an essential function of this job.
  • Minimum Requirements

    Education

  • Bachelor's Degree in Physical/Life Science or related field.
  • Experience

  • 5-10 years in a relevant field.
  • Supervisor Experience

  • 2-5 years supervising staff.
  • Licenses & Certifications

  • Cert/Lic in Area of Expertise.
  • Preferred Requirements

    Education

  • Master's Degree in Physical/Life Science or related field.
  • Experience

  • 10+ years in a relevant field.
  • Licenses & Certifications

  • MT/MLS - ASCP or equivalent.
