About the Beacon Program

Beacon Community Centers are vibrant, school-based hubs that serve children (ages 6+) and adults of all ages. Operating Monday–Friday (1:15 PM–9:15 PM), Saturdays (8:30 AM–4 PM), and full days during school holidays and summer break, Beacons are places for lifelong learning, exploration, connection, and community engagement.

The Assistant Director helps lead all aspects of Beacon operations, supporting the Beacon Director in advancing QCH's mission, vision, and values through high-quality programming and strong community partnerships.

Key Responsibilities

Build positive, trusting relationships with youth, families, school staff, and community members.

Support the planning and delivery of engaging, safe, and inclusive youth and community development programming.

Ensure effective outreach, recruitment, and retention to meet contractual goals.

Supervise, coach, and inspire a team of approximately 15 part-time staff.

Monitor program operations to ensure compliance with safety, fiscal, and reporting requirements.

Track and input accurate attendance, registration, and outcome data in QCH and funder systems.

Organize and lead events, staff meetings, and professional development sessions.

Serve as a liaison between QCH, the school, funders, and the broader community.

Manage timecards, budgets, petty cash, and other administrative tasks with precision and transparency.

Step into leadership roles within the Beacon unit and Youth Services division as needed.

Respond to crises or incidents, ensuring appropriate documentation, follow-up, and communication.

Maintain organized and up-to-date participant and staff records, both digitally and physically.

Assist with sub-contracted/co-located programming and community referral partnerships.

Perform additional duties and special projects as assigned.

What You'll Bring

Required:

Minimum 2 years of experience supervising youth and/or community development programs

Strong relationship-building, leadership, and communication skills

Comfort using Microsoft Office, Google Suite, Zoom, Canva, and other digital platforms

Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities

Commitment to youth development and community engagement

Willingness to work evenings/weekends and adapt to evolving program needs

Must meet NYS School-Aged Child Care Program Director requirements and obtain necessary clearances

Preferred:

BA/BS in Education, Social Work, Public Health, or related field

Bilingual (Spanish or another language)

Experience with performance-based contracts (e.g., DYCD), budgeting, and compliance

Familiarity with NYS OCFS and NYC DOHMH child care regulations
