Career Opportunities with Manhattan UniversityAssistant Director, Collegiate Science and Technology Entry Program (CSTEP) Position Title: Assistant Director, Collegiate Science and Technology Entry Program (CSTEP)This position is fully grant-fundedReports To: Director of CSTEPThe Manhattan University Collegiate Science and Technology Entry Program (CSTEP) is designed to support participants and address roadblocks that can often be experienced by students from underrepresented, low-income, and first-generation backgrounds. CSTEP engages eligible students who are completing majors that lead to careers in STEM and health-related fields, through entrance into professional licensures.Each year, CSTEP serves approximately 250 students studying across Manhattan University's three academic schools. As a statewide initiative that addresses underrepresentation in STEM fields, Manhattan University CSTEP has supported many students to complete their degrees successfully by providing access to a pre-freshman summer program, tutors, academic coaches, advising, and mentorship opportunities. Additionally, there is assistance for participants with their postgraduate goals, which can include employment, pursuing a professional licensure, or accessing graduate degrees. Our CSTEP alumni have advanced to PhD programs, medical schools, and other leadership roles in their respective industries.The Assistant Director and Career Specialist is a position available under a five-year grant program. The Assistant Director will have programming and advising responsibilities, and will prioritize career planning for all students, encouraging the skills and experiences needed to enter the STEM and licensed professions upon graduation. The Assistant Director, under the supervision of the Director of CSTEP and in concert with Program Managers will be required to:Lead efforts to recruit CSTEP participantsManage a caseload of students in the region of sixty to seventy, with special focus paid to those students who are at-riskOversee compliance for CSTEP enrolled students, ensuring participants are in good academic standing for their academic schools and financial aidProvide academic advisement for enrolled students, facilitating regular meetings throughout the semester with each participant to discuss his or her progress and provide insights on topics such as financial aid and academic supportProvide career guidance and workforce development support for CSTEP students at all levelsLiaise with the Center for Career Development on programming and student support initiativesCollect and collate data necessary to contribute to NYSED and internal reportsBe an active member of the CSTEP Summer Program that takes place between July and August for six weeksMaintain an “open door” policy to program participants.Represent the program and University at local and regional recruiting and networking eventsPerform other duties as requiredThe Assistant Director will be passionate about the goals of CSTEPA minimum of 3-5 years' experience working with a similar population of students in a related programA minimum of a Bachelor's Degree (Master's Degree strongly preferred).
