Job Summary: Columbia College is seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Assistant Bursar to support the financial operations of the Business Office. This position serves as the full functional backup to the Bursar and is trained in all Bursar responsibilities. In the Bursar's absence, the Assistant Bursar assumes the role and acts in the best interest of the College. This position plays a critical role in student billing, account reconciliation, and ensuring accurate and timely financial transactions. After the successful completion of on-site training, this position may transition to a hybrid work schedule may be available. Key Responsibilities:
  • Support and model Columbia College's mission, values, and goals.
  • Provide superior customer service and maintain professionalism in all interactions.
  • Serve as the primary backup to the Bursar, with full knowledge of office workflows.
  • Manage student account billing and ensure timely payments.
  • Process tuition adjustments and apply miscellaneous charges to accounts (e.g., library, parking, books, application fees).
  • Prepare reports, assist in audits, and provide documentation to departments or students.
  • Student account management. Including Oversee college e-Commerce operations including payment plans, electronic billing, and cashiering functions.
  • Respond to student and departmental inquiries regarding account balances and disputes.
  • Coordinate the application of financial aid to student accounts.
  • Collaborate with the Bursar and campus departments to improve business processes and system functionality.
  • Fulfill additional responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles and billing processes.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and work independently.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Experience with student information systems or accounting software is a plus.

  • Ability to fluently read, write, and understand the English language.
  • Proficiency with the following, but not limited to: active listening; speaking; writing; critical thinking; judgment and decision making; monitoring; reading comprehension; time management; coordination; and management of personnel resources.
  • Proficiency for using a variety of computer and technology-related software and equipment, including Microsoft Office products and database systems.
  • Proficiency in using web-based technologies, including database systems.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment, with or without direct supervision.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, customer service, and organizational skills.
  • Three or more years of supervisory experience
  • Prior experience working in a business office
  • Prior experience working with student accounts
  • A bachelor's degree is required; however, an equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
